you can't "check" sensors by looking at them or cleaning them m8...you better make somehow and plug in a proper tester to check fault codes and live data cos there could be many reasons
if that garage used a generic tool and got some air flow fault code it could be the AAP sensor aswell(the small one from the top of the airbox), or god knows what cos generic readers do not comunicate well with the td5 ecu
a proper diagnose is the shortest way believe me
