My TD5 Disco hard to start and running rough

Spoke to them today and they said im getting 4 bar at pump and 1 bar after regulator but asked if if changed regulator would this solve my problem and all he could say was its worth a shot. Then i asked about injector seals and said yes its possibly that but didnt want to disturb seal on new rocker cover gasket but can go down that route if i want, and hes supposed to be Land rover technician.

Sounds like a monkey- injector loom and seals would be first port of call.

do what they say Metallica - Kill Em All - YouTube ... "4 bar at the pump and 1 after the FPR" then it's logic that they used a gauge, it means they have it and they know how to use it(but i'm quite suspicious now:()...so ask them to use it before the FPR too...and instead of the fuel temp. sensor too ... cos if at the pump is 4 bar and that pressure doesnt reach the line before the FPR it means the line is clogged somewhere between... the only evidence of FPR failure is if there's 4 bar before it(near it, at it's input) and smaller after

i'm stumped about theyr incompetence

Told them to change fpr they done that now and said started first time and running fine but want to keep over weekend and start it from cold monday morning so still not got it back. Then decided to phone dcv who originally change regulator to ask about refund for faulty part they fitted and said they would send part back to landrover and refund me part and i said i wanted compensation for all messing about ive had to go through cause of them. And they said sort it out when take faulty part in to them. Then dcv phone me back asking who id had doing the car and told them who and said i shouldnt have to pay cause land rover should sort it out under warrenty cause its a faulty part and ask who at Land rover did work so told him and they said thats my apprentice let me phone him so wondering now if its still going to work on monday. Wish id waited till picked my landy up before phoning.

Hi well went down to Landrover this morning to pick my landy up and said they wouldnt release it yet as the tech who was working on it wasnt in and nobody else apparently know how to start a car there because no one could try it to see if it run. So left it there a few phone calls later its started but not running right so went back down to actually see for myself and what do ya know wont start again but they got it inside right in front of diagnostics so had to fetch manager who told us the only level 4 technician who was working on car is away on a course for 3 days and no one else there new what to do so was told to bear with them would get this tech to give us a call to let us know whats happening and he hasn't got a clue what to do with it. He still wants to change pump and injector seal and send injectors away for testing which is going to be in excess of £1000 think im going to pick it up and use it as garden furniture.

Ratty and others on here have given good advice-knowing that the injector seals and o rings are large part of weird running faults and injector loom.

that would be first place to start!

Fuel regulators generally leak

those seals are also diagnosticable with a gauge on the fuel feed ...if you clamp the return pipe and the pressure drops over night

Hi yes i know they have they have been brill and that's what i'm telling them to change the o rings in morning and if they wont then ill pick it up and take it some where who will do it i've had enough of there fob off and head scratching they've had car 11 days now and im still none ner wiser can anybody recommend good garage in the Yorkshire area i cant believe a landrover garage has only 1 tech whose qualified enough and all you get out off him is its worth a shot why cant they just tell me whats wrong and fix it.

Well finally getting somewhere with my landy, stratstone phoned yesterday saying it was finally running but wanted to keep it over night to try in morning from a cold start. so finally after a new fuel pump, fuel regulator, glow plugs and injectors sent away for testing and there fine decided to put car back together with new injector seals, and what do ya know the cars running so want to thank all you guys for your help as im sure when it comes to costing for all this work i did ask them about seals and and how to check without taking engine completely to bits which he wouldn't do cause said it could damage engine so hopefully still running today and hopefully not going to need another mortgage to pay for it thanks again guys look like you got it spot on.

I'm glad you finally got it sorted. Have you asked them for your money back for the parts that they fitted while playing Russian roulette with your money?

If the untrained on here can spot the dymptoms of an injector seal fault I'd expect one of Landrovers head techs to be able to.

Hi they phoned me with price of just under a thousand cant remember exactly £900 and some which was for a new fuel pump and injectors testing and refitting with new seals oh and of course diagnostics and 2.5 hrs labor but they said they'd work 15hrs on it im wondering though how many of them hours were actually work and how many were scratching there heads. And diagnostics what did they actually diagnose they have just been going through various parts hoping they ll work and the fuel pump when they said they wanted to change that told them there was nothing wrong with the fuel pump it was only a couple of year old if that and i told them that forums had all suggested to me injector seals so im not paying for something i told them not to change so we ll see what happens when i get down there haven't been able to get yet working 6 while 6 so going to be fri early Finnish oh and there still waiting for some catches which they broke in boot while fitting fuel pump which i didn't want ill let you know outcome anyway thanks again for all your info.

I think it took around 2 hours to do the injector seals on mine and that was mainly due to the fact that I didn't have an injector puller and my injectors were stuck fast. We ended up using a slide hammer.

On the grounds that we had never changed the injector seals on a TD5 before, I rekon a 'Level 4' Landrover trained tech should be able to do the job in less time than it took Fanatic and myself.

Well got my landy back at last and running brill but couldn't move them with bill £962.21 as they said i needed fuel pump as well but in know i didnt any way got my old 1 back as it not much over year old and going to write to who evers in charge of stratstone and let them know how incompetent i think there best mechanic is and how it took him 4 weeks to find out what my problem was even when it had been suggested to him and suggested how to check for problem but any ways thanks for all your help i know my landy wont be going there again.

Trading standards stratstone are known previously for s**t service, complain to land rover as well that a trained technician needed to be told what was wrong with it.

glad you sorted it..
Now mines playin up ,gona have another trawl then maybe start my own thread.
But recently (last 4 days) my motor td5 2004 hasnt been pulling right . usually good at first but as soon as you accelerate the revs hold and turbo wont kick in.
the turbo seems to have issues (BUT ONLY SOMETIMES) and no boost. or sticks at low boost. this can be through all gears and can be a bitch when it happens in 1st and 2nd an struggle to get to 30. feels slower than my old 2.5td 19j
but then itl work fine round the next corner.
i took to a garage today and they diognosed faulty maf.
but we checked with new maf sensor and it was same no power.
so i got one anyway (£90 )as it came up faulty 2 month ago when i last plugged it in.

still the same really under power , struggling to turbo 1 minute fine the next.
any ideas???

yeah i checked waste gate its ok but sprayd little wd40 on it anyway.
it seems like when its warm its worse.
maybe its the map sensor gona give it a clean.

i recently had injector seals and crank sensor maybe 2 months ago.
gona check intercooler pipes and that in the mornin.
