Hi i bought a td5 a couple of month ago as ive had one for nine years with no serious problems after a very short while gearbox was very clunky in first and second so decided to have it checked at a land rover garage and they discovered quite a lot of faults which was front cam leaking, rocker gasket leaking, oil in injector loom at ecu ,rear diff pinion leaking oil, full flow filter leaking oil, fuel pressure reg wet and gear box synchros on first and second baulking. So spoke to where bought landy from and agreed to some repairs which were replace rocker cover gasket and cam seal, clean out injector loom connector, replace diff pinion seal, fuel pressure regulator and gear box which i thought was very good of them so booked in for all work doing which took garage a week. picked up a week later and all seemed ok till next morning when found my td5 struggled to start and thought could be heater plugs so thought need to get replace soon and it did this a few times more till i had to take my kids to school one day was stuck in heavy traffic when my landy started running rough and eventually cut out on me and couldn't get it started again aa came out and said it was low on fuel they said land rovers can run out on quarter of a tank so followed me put more fuel in and went on my way but being full of fuel didn't cure my problem started doing lot more till totally cut out on me again so again aa came out this time was quite full of fuel so this time decided to look at engine and gave plugs clean with some spray got it going again but not very well so followed me home. So decided to get in touch with mechanics who have done repairs for them to tell me they have no technician any more so nothing they can do. Now my landy wont start at all so had a look on forums and decided to replace injector harness and clean out red plug and injector loom and still wont start. Don't know what to try next but would just like to say my landy run perfect didn't miss or anything before it went in garage only prob when driving was the gear box so could any tell me what i should be doing next.

Can you hear the in tank fuel pump whirring with the ignition on? Could be dead fuel pump.
Other thing to consider is the crank position sensor, if the garage had the gear box out then they may have damaged the wiring or not reconnected the sensor it properly, that'd log a code in the ECU though so you'd need it plugged in to a nanocom/hawkeye to check for sure.

Thanks for replies taking it to garage today to have it plugged in (if i can get it there) will let you know what happens thanks

Well got it running with bit of spray and couldn't believe it running spot on, took it to garage anyway to see if could find any thing and it came up with previous faults of ambient air pressure but cleared that and checked again and had no fault like i said car was running fine so checked what ambient pressure was said it was ok but fluctuating a bit which it shouldn't be doing while idling and also airflow too low said i need to replace sensor does anybody know where it is and how to do it please

Hi no not got it sorted yet went back to garage where diagnostics done and it was just coming up with can error ive been phoning round garages to see if they have proper land rover diagnostics with no luck as yet think im going to have to pay out and take it to actual land rover garage, but going to have to wait while end of month as they are quite pricey. But cant even get it started now its turning over quick just not firing at all if spray easy start it will fire little with that but as soon as i stop it just dies.

Check the fuel pump first but from what you are describing regarding the cutting out and rough running my guess is injector seals.

I concur, after yours being a total bastard-that's where I would start

Well Landrover have had it now for 3 days scratting there heads and decided they want to change fuel pump which was changed in 2008 and see were we go from there so i think there guessing at what wrong with it and at £600 just to see if makes a difference i dont think so.

:mad: they should have meaured the fuel pressure at the rail(after the FPR) instead of scratching theyrs heads.... that's the certain way to see if the pump delivers enough or not

Thinking about swapping fuel pump myself if that dont work it can only be injector seals everything else has been replaced going for pump first look easier than injector seals wish these was as easy to work on as my series 2a 2 1/4 petrol fire engine.

They are easy to work on. Have a look in the defender 'how to' section to see what's involved with changing the injector seals.

Land rover have phoned again today and changed there minds they now think it could be fuel regulator just waiting for them to phone with price. Wonder what it could be tomorrow.

M8, i bag you ...please ask them what's the fuel pressure at the rail....and if they dont have a clear answer... run fast as far as you can.... and dont pay them nothing:mad: ...also they can rule out(or not) the injector seals if they put a gauge on the fuel line and clamp the return pipe ....the pressure will drop with faulty seals

Spoke to them today and they said im getting 4 bar at pump and 1 bar after regulator but asked if if changed regulator would this solve my problem and all he could say was its worth a shot. Then i asked about injector seals and said yes its possibly that but didnt want to disturb seal on new rocker cover gasket but can go down that route if i want, and hes supposed to be Land rover technician.
