Oh I see, no that's actually a crack in the splitter! Haha! I need a new one really, but want a mint one!

you did well to get yours off in one piece, well nearly 1 piece :p

It was already cracked! I didn't take it all the way off in the end, I had to on my last RRC for something and it is one of the most tedious jobs ever, removing that front splitter!! So I released the bolts I needed and pulled it out the way to allow me to push them out enough to fit the steering guard. Job done!

Well, I managed to take her out for her first proper greenlaning trip this weekend, try out some of the changes I've made recently! Myself and CarlV8 followed half of the route round north Hampshire in this months LRO. Pleased to say she performed faultlessly, thought I'd shae some pics of the trip below:

Very pleased with the old girl, and ever in the deepest ruts I felt the underside was suitable protected with the steering guard, diff guards and HD drag link arm :)

However, work is never finished on this sort of project - the swivel pin seals are leaking badly so they will be sorted this week, I'm also trying to ascertain if the coating of oil over everything is from an old oil leak that is now fixed (it doesn't seem to use any!) or is still a small leak from somewhere. I can't decide whether to clean it all off, or leave it as a great form of rust protection - thoughts?

I could have done that lot in my mums volvo :p

Not scratchy enough to be proper lanes mike, your paint should be ruined after the first 100 yards if they are good :D

Naah that's not my type of laning at all - I hate scratchy lanes, I love my car too much!!

The deep ruts would've caused most vehicles issues, as for the rutted climb after those tight trees - no chance!

After last weekends greenlaning, the car needed a good clean as it got pretty muddy underneath and also picked up a few scratches after the last lane of the day that got very narrow towards the end!

So the car had a thorough wash yesterday and this morning I decided to T-Cut all the panels to remove most of the scratches and restore some of the metallic shine - it came out pretty good I reckon (although there are still some now-very-shiny scratches)!

This week it is back to Goodyer 4x4 to sort out the leaking swivel pins and a few other bits and bobs. After that, now the weather is improving, I will be building the storage system that will carry all our gear for the trip to Morocco and looking for a roof rack and roof tent too!

Got the car back from Goodyer's and they replaced the transfer box oil, both diff oils, have cleared the fault code for the airbag light (looks to be a faulty resistor somewhere in the loom!) and topped up the swivel pins with more grease.

Weirdly there is no play whatsoever in the swivel joints themselves, but they are leaking. I asked if a seal kit would fix it and they said no, probably need to strip them down and rebuild them at some point with new internal components (shims, pins, etc) - does that sound about right?

Also, the cruise control fault appears to be with the vacuum pump, but that is buried under a myriad of LPG related ****e so I told them to forget about it, I'm not made of money damn it!

Still, car seems to be running smoother and Graham did say it is one of the nicest Classic's he'd seen and driven - result!

Not sure what is next in this ongoing project to be honest. I want to sort the sunroof and rear windows out so probably start on them, then I guess I need to crack on with designing and building a storage system for the expedition, and sourcing a roofrack and roof tent.

Incidentally, anyone know the best place to get hexboard from for the storage system?

UPDATE: 10/03/2012

Most expensive month so far!! The steering wobble had got worst (a lot worst), so took it back to Goodyer 4x4 and another £550 was relieved from me to strip out and rebuild both swivel housings, fit new swivel pins to both sides and fit a new drag link balljoint. Ouch!

Annoyingly, two days before that I had spent a sizeable amount of money on a Autohome Maggiolina rooftent, so I collected the car on Friday, dashed up the Midlands to collect that and then back south today. Fits perfectly on the roof, can't wait to try it out:

Gonna have to have a financial break from modifications for a month or so, but will continue with the storage system build and also got a Thule roofrack and lockable roof bars to fit in addition to the Thule roof bars pictured, for extra security and strength.

It's getting there, slowly and very expensively right now!!

I took the roof tent off the RR this weekend, no point dragging it round for the next few months! Also gave me an opportunity to give it a thorough clean, as it is second hand and when it was last used it was caught in a sand storm in the Sahara, so was covered in the stuff! It cleaned up nicely, the shell itself I have treat with a vinyl protector and will also give it a wax to help it slip through the air a bit easier - anything to improve fuel economy!

There's a few marks on the fabric parts of the tent that I would like to get off if I can, so any suggestions on what to use would be great!
