My mind rejects it! Engine rust in a Defender under 1 year??

Looked under the hood yesterday (I don't do it often - shame), and find there is rust on two parts of the engine of my new Defender. Owned for under a year. Only cause I can think of is that we lived for 6 months on a river (I mean literally within a few meters), but hadn't notice the climate was particularly damp/humid.

Is this normal? Should I just spray a light oil on these parts? Other ideas?

i'd be taking it to the dealer and having them replace the rail and fix the block up, even it is only surface rust. it should be better protected..

TBH i dont think its covered by warranty, the only way they'll replace the fuel rail is if the valve goes or you miss-fuel the car and drive it,

its ****, the older 2.4 never did it (within warranty anyway), that said if you asked it to be cleaned up and sprayed with VHT paint that would hide your surface rust for many years

Spray the parts with WD-40 every so often. Although parts should not really develop surface rust, l am not sure l would be fretting that much about it.

Every so often l spray every metal part with WD-40 (or similar) it does stop this cosmetic rust.

sod the warranty. it's under a year.. start saying you will reject the whole thing.

check your xmember when you are at it.. is it rusty yet?

Most common rails I see have some sort of cad/zinc plating and then quite a lot are painted on top of that as well.
The common rail has really thick walls so will not rot out.

Spray it with WD-40! Or a spray grease.

It will look better and won't rust if you re apply the coating every so often. I used to have motorbikes and had to do this all the time, even on brand new bikes, to stop the finish corroding on various parts.

The alloy parts are showing corrosion too, does it not get much use? Not sure my OCD could leave that bright orange rust untreated even if its harmless.

Looking at the image again, there's a lot of oxidation on the alloy parts as well.
Although it's not going to affect the running of the engine, l do wonder if it has been axposed to salt water or a lot of winter driving where there has been salt on the roads?
To stop this happening, or getting worse, open the bonnet from time to time and spray everything with WD-40 or similar.
But don't spray the turbo or exhaust manifold/downpipe!
