MPG not as scary as i thought

Been doing some calculations over the past couple of days, and our 4.0 seems to be returning 20-25 mpg when driven sensibily with the odd burst of sport button.Pretty much on short 15-20m journeys

Be happy if that continues

Is that a comparative MPG of LPG vs Petrol...

i.e. Actually returning 12-14mpg, but with the cheaper cost of LPG it is in monetry value - returning 20-25mpg??
 
I'm heading for Scotland this afternoon. Might do a brim to brim calculation and see what I get. I suspect it will be around 22.

that will be interesting,could you post up what the computer also says just to see how much it lies
mine says 18.3 just running to work and back about 14 miles eachway
 
I'm just happy to see someone else getting more than 20mpg from a P38 and copping the disbelief from senior members (currently 21.45 from 4.6 on pure petrol).Good for you Kev in Bonnie Scotland. I think it's because we have cleaner air in the north-that's why Keviswatt gets even more than me, he's further north!!!
 
I didn quite beleive it at first but i was happy with it being 20mpg let alone above that.We are very rural, so not alot of stop/start, I have not driven much in the city/town were i suspect this may drop. Its getting around the same as our old Chevrolet astro (4.3 v6) and it had has the benifit of having the steering weel on the correct side !
 
Yeah I didn't either when I saw the computer, so I did full to full calculation and it's right! I had a 3.5 auto a bit back and that averaged 14mpg-that's really scary. Like you tho, I'm pretty rural, if I go into town it's horrific especially if I get stuck in traffic. The positive is that most people back off at an approaching Rangie, they're too big to argue with!

Rural location is a big advantage. Lots of London traffic and cold starts means we are lucky to get more than 13mpg!! Although the new P38 with only 40k on the clock hasn't dropped below 15mpg yet:)

If that vote you're having in a couple of years goes the way of independence you might find you have to move your steering wheel back over to the other side lol!!

Ok so did the calculation and the answer was....18.9mpg. Computer said 20.1mpg. Rather disappointed with that to be honest. Not a single mile was in the town. Half of the distance was on clear motorways sitting at 80 and the other half was sitting at 50-60.
 
I've had my p38 4.6 3weeks, when I picked it up I drove home at 60mph on the m6 for 40 miles and when I got home I was getting 9.4 mpg. drove it around for a week, then
I had to go Scotland so filled up the tank added a full bottle of redx. Set the cc to 55mph :( we got 21.4mpg (not good) now I've been back a week and getting 12.3 all town driving and that's like driving 0-35 in about 35-40 seconds, I'm not to happy with that but what can ya do, it is nice to have a v8 tho :)
 
My 1998 4.6 Rangie is getting 22mpg(Imperial) at 65mph highway. Not bad for 14y/o, 216,000+ miles. Good old beasty.

I had to make some conversion here since in Japan we are using Metric, but the best I succeed to do so far was 15,24 Miles per gallon (British) on a 350km trip with 50% highway and 50% regular road. I am so "jealous" or Keviswatt whit its 20 to 25!

I have a 4.6 1995 Rangie with 83,000 KM.
 
I get 15 mpg on gas all day long, got to use petrol to start her, so I am not including that. If I do I will probably be sick. V8 rumble makes it very Worth it.

Echo cljcars. Mine runs about the same as his. Agree that the V8 burble is worth every penny :)
 
The burble could be a little deeper though. Its got a Stainless cat back, for the MOT I had to put a bubble of weld on a small hole on the CAT link pipe, So I might get a new one and pull the Catalyst out and weld a pipe through the centre, see what difference that makes. Little more of a burble with any luck.
