tax ex vehicles are not on puta...:D:D:D:D

you still need a valid mot to tax it though. mot aint a tax, the govt gets around 10 quid a car from the cost of the mot..the rest goes to the mot station.

but heres how the law looks at it,

Use, cause or permit a vehicle to be used on a road without a test certificate is an offence under Section 47, RTA 1988.
Penalty: Fine of up to £2,500 (if the vehicle has 8 or more seats), £1,000 (otherwise). No disqualification, endorsement or points can be awarded.

Re no MOT invalidating Insurance; Because of section 148 RTA 1988
as to condition of the vehicle, Insurance Companies cannot invalidate a certificate issued as far as making it a criminal offence i.e. to use without Insurance (S145). This does not not however prevent them from taking action to recover certain costs under the civil law. Remember the case of the bald tyre? The driver was not charged with using without Insurance. The third party was paid out but the sum was recovered from the driver by the Insurance Company at County Court.

but you would be prosecuted if you were invloved in a fatal RTA, remember the recent case where the kiddies died, his had current mot but was not "allegedly"in a fit state for the road.

why risk it? for the sake of average of 30 quid !

the mot is a certificate to state that at the time of test the vehicle met the required standard ie roadworthy at the time.
thats why they issue fail certs as well and advise not to drive away if its a shed or summat is not safe. tax or not it has to be done.

We've all heard the stories of the dodgy motors with 6 months MOT left, but no system would be perfect. Would you expect the MOT to become a Monthly test, of course not. Like its been said though, the worst cars do eventually get caught and either have to be fixed or scrapped.

The new computerised system also helps avoid those dodgy MOT's as well, although I am sure some people have found a way round it somewhere.

Like the guy who does my MOT's says, you only need to be caught once and thats your livelyhood gone.

I agree ive got a mate who passed a mates car when the new mot`s first came out, it needed loads of work doin to it but cus he was a mate he passed it. He sed he was goin to get the jobs done, 2 days later he got pulled car was checked over, MOT mate, massive fine and sacked, cant mot cars again, not worth it.

never really bother with mots these days no point as it aint worth ****.It even says so in the fine print.i pay my insurance so **** it.

hows it go..

This certifacate is not a measure of roadworthyness...

...or summat like that.

Look at the small print on your insurance: If you do not have a valid MOT, and maintain your vehicle in good order, you will not be insured.
And to explode your other myth: No tax so cannot get vehicle Mot’d - catch 22: Purchase of insurance does not require the vehicle to be Taxed or MOT’d, and the law allows a vehicle that is insured, (or person) to be driven to the MOT station provided the MOT is pre-booked and you drive there by the most direct route.

But then I suppose it will be the other guy who will take the pain.
