Hi,

Urgently need some help please... MOT today which it failed due to oil on the front brake disk. The MOT guy pointed out that oil has been dripping out of the axle behind the brake disk then dripping down on to the wheel. Had it up on the jack and took off the Hub dust cap and hub and a lot of oil came out.!!! As yet to strip off the brake disk to invigilate more (tomorrow job) but asking for help to see if anyone has had this before.

Could to be:
- miss a-line seal (i changed these last year with the bearings)
- blocked axle vent (the little value on the top of the axle)
- Anything else..??

Please, help and advice is must needed.

(its a Defender 90 on a K Plate)

Both sides seem to have the same issue but Nearside is the worst and the only side that the MOT guy picked up on.

You need to replace the hub seal, that's where the oil behind the disc is coming from. Check the land that the hub seal runs on, on the stub axle is undamaged, if it is it will quickly destroy any replacement you fit.
Oil coming out from behind the drive member dust cap is good, it means that the drive member and half shaft splines are being lubricated.
And of course, as the other chaps have suggested, check that your breather is clear.

depending on if hub seal is an oil seal ie has a garter spring,if not its a grease seal and oil shouldnt reach the hub so a seal in stub axle in that case
