My MOT is coming up, and I am probably looking to need a full set of new tyres to do it properly. My question is should I just replace the tyres on each ranging from £100-£190 per tyre, or should I buy a used upgraded set on ebay then sell my old ones. I think this may be the cheaper option, and the chance to improve the look of the car aswell?

Thoughts? Current wheels are 255/60/18

piccy of current wheels ? are they the standard hurricanes ?

i got shot of my originals too as they made the car look pants. got some nice 20" stormers on the old girl now, much improved look plus handling ! lol

Yer standard HSE hurricanes I think. Out of interest how much did the stormers cost and how much you make back on the old ones? Just doing the sums now. Is the ride still nice with the 20's on?

Haven't you just had gearbox and engine troubles with your vehicle? I'd probably get that fixed before you bother with bling.

oh right, yea there kinda ugly IMO

stormers cost me £400 with 2 new tyres and two part warn that i have changed after 5000 miles.

budget tyres are around £150 each for the 20" stormers.

sold my old set of 18" with 4 good tyres for £250.

i wasn't too bothered about getting my money back, the improved look was worth it.

be prepared to get used to a engine vibration though once you fit bigger wheels ! :D

landrover never offered any wheels bigger than the standard 18" on the TD6 models as they found any bigger than 18" made a vibration rumble through the car when you are stationary and in drive whilst holding the car on the brake.... lol

not bothered me to be honest, i always take mine out of drive when in traffic to save the gearbox anyway :D

Ride is a bit harder with the lower profile, bigger 20" wheels. but there less bouncy round corners so the handling was 100% better after :)

I was just thinking that I preferred your 'old' avatar, that you owned a Series and that I didn't remember you being a web-fingered chicken-humping west country savage.

Thought I was going fookin mad.

Levity is restored....aaaaah

You are probably right Bix- although g-box is sorted now, and rough idle does seem to be injector related- not an issue I am worried about- will treat it to some high strength injector cleaner and a dash of petrol- ta for the advice :) Just thought I may be able to save a few bob on tyres all round by doing some trading!
Hippo- not sure if my clients would appreciate any untoward vibrations- although maybe some of the women might  Will look into it though
Oh and Blue- I am sorry- I did ask Sirius way back if I could change name- he never got back to me!

I hate to intrude into all this private abuse that's going on but I'm really glad you raised the question of MOT's.........'cos mine passed today without even an advisory....and I just had to tell somebody....an' I couldn't start a new thread just to announce I'd passed my MOT...people might think I was obsessed with my P38.....

Well done Tak- shows you're on top of the maintenance then!
Blue- I have asked him to change my name- I hope!
Hippo, what make are the budget's? Never really gone for the cheap ones

Nexen roadians

Brill tyres, were on the alloys when I bought them, so kept the same make when I got two new ones recently.

Can't complain, good on road, fine in snow

Can't be spending £300 a tyre for Michelins now lol
