Took the beast in for an MoT yesterday passed but was told the inner sills needs replacing. How hard is this to do ? I have a welder (can't weld though) figured this is a good time to learnand I have a year to get it done. Can I do it bit by bit or is it an instant tug if they are off ?

normally dont mot peeps put yellow chalk around the rot ? i agree, get under and see for yourself..if its out of your skill level ...get a mate to help

Firstly a disco doesn't really have an inner or outer sill (it does) but you'll see what I mean when ya look To take off the Plastic sill covers yu knock the centre pins out of the plastic rivets. But first get underneath and look for the holes. If the MOT tester has said "inner sill" he prob means the back of the sill. when you've had a look come back and let us know what ya found.

I just cut the complete cill of flush with the underside of the floor and welded in a steel box section 120mm by 60mm x 3mm thick, obviously cutting round the door pillars and replacing any mountings that are shot, do it like this and it will never need doing again
and you are about 15 mins from me
fancy teaching a fellow member to weld ? I have a mig and gasless mig bit nervous abot learning on the vehicle i need every day

as said before, depending on the rot you might get away with just welding patches over it...

Mate get a load of scrap metal and practice welding it togeather, start with the thicker stuff and work your way down, just spend hours practicing and lerning the speed of the wire. I taught my self to arc and mig weld this way, it took me a hour to learn arc on some scrap. mig is quite easy to do to be honest, the is a thing on the internet to work out you wire speed and amps for you.
just practice practice practice and look at some vids on you tube
