Hi folks,
The attached pictures are of a failed 150A Bosch Alternator. This was the original factory fitted one from my previous P38 Rangie. The Indie said "Your Alternator's knackered, £XXX to fit a new one".
At the time I was being paid a car allowance of £500/Month to run the car so I just said sure, replace it, but I want the old one.
Anyway, the failure was a sudden and instant death of all Alternator output and not any burning, smoking or dodgy/degraded voltages over time. Just BAM! light on dashboard after hitting a pothole or similar.

I just took the thing mildly apart to have a look (to see if its good to fix up as a spare).
I don't know what the white spot on the diode-pack is all about (it doesn't scrape off).
The slip-rings seem deeply grooved by the pickups (or is that normal?).
The brushes are very "short" and seemingly have little or no travel and are at the extent of their forward limit I think. If the slip rings are "as they should be" am I just looking at a new brush-unit assembly and probably all good to go?
