Y2K Disco2 TD5

1) EGR valve removed (like totally) - Alisport kit
2) Heavy Duty Front Bumper - Devon 4x4 Off Road - D44 Discovery 2 non-winch bumper : D44D2NOWINCHTA : Off Road Equipment from Devon 4x4
3) Heavy duty suspension kit: Devon 4x4 Off Road - Discovery 2 suspension package : Off Road Equipment from Devon 4x4 (substituted the 779 springs for 777s)
4) 265/70/16 BFG A/Ts
5) Braided brake lines
6) ATE Superblue brake fluid

Overall, quite pleased. Because I did all the mods in one go, it's hard to see the affect of one vs another. But in any case:

1) EGR valve removal doesn't seem to have done anything at all. I guess my EGR was working perfectly (it seems that you only get proper gains when the EGR valve isn't working well).

2) Bumper looks cool IMHO. Prolly prevents having to trim the stock bumper to fit the tyres. Pleased with it overall. Fits nicely, but really could now do with a steering guard. Perhaps cheaper to trim stock bumper, but never mind. Best looking bumper available, IMHO.

3) Suspension kit. Pleased with this too. Especially pleased that I subbed the 777 springs in. Landy sits higher, but I don't think 50mm higher. Ride is little firmer than before (which is a good thing). Got rid of any wallowing. Probably this won't be so much help away from tarmac - we shall see.

4) Tyres. Look good, ruin gearing. That 10% increase in gearing has made the landy feel sluggish. I can't be certain it's not the EGR kit doing it, but it really does seem to labour a lot more, especially up hill. With no spare wheels, I can't do a comparative test, but this will take some getting used to. No doubt the difference is negated somewhat in low ratio g/box setting.

5) Didn't make as much difference as I was expecting. Brakes are not all that great (compared to what I'm used to), definite lack of sharpness. Maybe I'll try some different pad material or something.

6) Always good, this fluid. As it's blue, you can tell when the old amber fluid is out. As they also make it in amber, you can tell when the blue fluid's gone too.

I know I'll get a 'this thread is pointless with no pics', so i'll edit it asap, and add the below pics:

Looks a bit scruffy and unwashed. Weather crap here today too, so photos look dull.

Cheers,

Ben

Heh, just looked at the prices ... for the price of a D44 I could have almost identical front and rear bumpers, diff guards and steering guard ... and change ... ;)

410 for a NON winch bumper!
fook me you must love trowing money away
even the guardian winch bumpers are only 270 ish and they are far better

Thanks for the feedback guys, as I said, IMO, the D4x4 bumper is the best looking one on the market. If you want something **** looking like the guardian one hanging off the front of your car, go for it - it's your money.

Have to agree ref the guardian bumper, its tubular and they look rubbish on Disco's imo, look ok on fenders tho.

if im not mistaken this is NOT a tubular bumper

I'm sure Dave Kirby at Tarantula 4x4 will be very pleased to hear that. As the D4x4 bumper is identical to his, & he's been making them for a lot longer than D4X4 has. He's a paranoid bugger though cause he's convinced they nicked his design. And funnily enough his were about £175. Last time I was chatting to him.

well, maybe that's the point. The holes and the A-bar make it look ****. More than likely that's what UP was on about. WTF are the holes for anyway?

that is the point, if it wasnt for the holes and a bar its the same as yours, apart from yours doesnt have a winch mount, but the guardian one is nearly half the price of yours
i happen to like the holes, its a bit different not like the plain and boring ones that look like the OE bumper with the ends cut off
