Missing Front Propshaft

Thats what I thought. Bit more involved than removing the rear prop but might be interestin'
 
If the VCU is locked ie no moving parts , how can it heat-up or wear out?
They wear out because LR built in the speed difference between the front and back so that the VCU is 'slipping' all the time, isn't it?

don't think my other half would approve, she crashed her last RWD car :eek:
but then again it was a 360bhp 3 door cosworth. so maybe i might persuade her that a RWD freelander is the way to go. more fun.:cool:

Aha guess what? i would still need a front prop...damm.

anyone want two drive shafts in exchange for a front propshaft?

Hi i have just found this on ebay..and thought it might be of interest to you its a new FRONT PROP and the item no is 200165398667. Ebay member id is 6757 pauls.
I hope this is what you need as at the mo its a wicked start price..0.99p

Interesting to read how the Hippo will drive quite happily in FWD mode when the front propshaft is removed.

I need to replace the VCU support bearings on mine sometime soon and it's useful to know the car isn't unusable while it's being done. Obviously the back one will need to come off too but then that's part and parcel of dropping the VCU anyway.

Good in theory but I bet there would be a failure in jig time.

The bevel pinion that takes the drive out of the main box onto the propshaft would be my bet to quit first, and the IRD would get abuse it was never expected to handle.

You could weld up the IRD I suppose or get a buggered one and weld that.

I wonder who is going to try it first.

Going mondo mode is great fun, LR said the FL didnt handle when in 2wd. Nonsense! if you have too much power on the FL will let you exactly what understeer is happening at the front.

Certainly for the petrol version, power is very responsive, so instantly take power off then on again if needs must. This will surely get you out of any tricky situation.
Same for the 4wd mode either full power on or full power off, along with reverse lock on the steering to control sideways action.

Rwd will require different driving technique, feathering the throttle requires restraining the right foot. Not easy when you know what power the Fl can churn out.

While we are at it what about dropping a V8 into the engine bay and prop to the back wheels. There is a V8 available in the Rover 75 which has a much smaller engine bay than the FL.

shirley if yer got opposite lock on you have oversteer and not understeer. and if yer instantly going from full power to no power and back again yule be asking fer trouble..if you have enough power that is
