My 1989 range rover is miss firing on tick over and when you are moving as well i have canged spark plugs and leads and cap can anyone help and no go in it

Remove the dizzy cap and unplug the HT lead from the coil at the cap, holding the lead in a pair of well insulated pliers with the end of it approx. 6mm away from the brass segment on the top of the rotor arm get someone to give the starter motor a short spin. If a spark jumps accross, the rotor arm is tracking to earth and is knackered. Replace it with a new GENUINE rotor, not spurious. Also double check that the plug leads are in the right order on the dizzy cap and at the plugs. Is the dizzy cap genuine or spurious? Check that all of the leads are fully home in the cap and coil and making a sound contact, had a post on here some ime ago where the leads were not reaching the bottom of the ports in the cap and causing severe misfiring.
The EFI V8's are normally bullet proof but need genuine HT components. Spurious parts, although cheaper will cause nothing but trouble

evening john, been out for some black stuff tonight.

Hiya John..Nah.. that comes tomorrow nite and I intend making up for lost time. Went over to Holyhead & back on Wednesday with a van to collect some stuff off my cousin who lives in North Wales and had been doing a few jobs for my sister. Got a brand new front P38 axle complete with swivels, new rear bumper, BECM with key and had to get some essential supplies for er indoors from Tesco cos the Irish shops don't sell it...Warburtons bread, Haywards pickled cabbage and a load of other stuff including a litre of Courvoisier for meself. Took two days to get over the early start and the "Cruise" so I'm going to catch up on my liquid starvation the weekend.:beer2::beer2::beer2::beer2:

ha ha,good man, enjoy it and have a few for me as well.

Might be a moaning old fart..but the last post is all too typical on here.

AGAIN I say..why don't people state what the fix was so that other people can benefit.
It just pi**es me off that people genuinely take the time & trouble to try and help out those with a problem and are left hanging there with an "It's fixed" answer.:violent:

Dead right.

How does saying "It's fixed" help anyone, even in the context of a specific thread? It could be a n other reason it got fixed, not necessarily the one being discussed!

And having been helped, they should be happy to follow up what happened after ...

It was running to lean and a faulty rotar arm i hope that stop you being ****ed off and at least i said thanks

That's all we needed to know.
If someone has the same problem as yourself then they can do a search on here before posting and see relevant fixes for starters.

Forum posts are two way traffic and all about sharing ideas to solve problems without garage costs if possible.

Your thanks are appreciated, but the fix as well would have been better.:clap2:
