so back from a test run.. got to Shepton using as much revs as I could and hammering it hard up every hill and the temp guage didn't move all the way there and all the way back so calling that a success..

still a little worried about timing.. on LPG it's backfiring on hard acceleration from low speeds and on the overrun.. have retarded a little more to see if that sorts it but gotta eat now so will check that out tomorrow..

Nice one:)

Do I get a choccy biccy now?;):p

give us an update in a week or so Tigger (once you have clocked up a few miles). Don't forget to keep a close eye on your oil and coolant for the next few weeks. You don't want to find you have a slight leak on a hose and then cook the engine and have to repeat the process.;)

Thanks ratty.. will do. Also concerned about timing or sommat now.. ran down to burnham yesterday and back today.. temp stayed solid all the way but misfiring a little on petrol and on lpg got a backfire so bad the airbox is in pieces... no idea if the MAF survived..

what plugs have you got in it at the moment? The originals or the ones with the big gaps?

When it backfired what conditions was it under? (was it under load or on overrun etc)

At least the overheating seems to be behind you.

yeah pleased the overheating is sorted.. backfires are happening on the overrun and under load.. switched back to petrol now so gonna keep the miles down until it's sorted.

I have the new plugs in again but re-gapped to what it said in the rave..

Retard your Ignition Tigger!
It's too advanced for LPG and is sparking before the inlet valve is fully closed and blowing back into the LPG rich mixture in the plenum chamber.
It will be worse under load because your vacuum advance is shifting the timing even further.
Watch you dont blow up your air mass meter.......££££££££££

remind me.. cos I've got all kerfuffled.. clockwise is advance anti clock retard??

I've tried it both ways and still getting the same.. think I might be getting obsessed with those two little springs which presumably would be allowing mechanichal advance too soon if they are stretched?? for the sake of a tenner I'll get them matched and replaced I think..

bloody ell tigger you should have put the new springs in at the start, this would have saved you an awful lot of messing about, you will never get the timing right with knackered springs, its bloody impossible mate.

problem is finding them.. the only person I have found who can supply them doesn't have any onfo on this dizzy so doesn't know what size to send me..

Tigger. It's a shot in the dark but try giving Bath auto electrics a call. They're on The avenue at Combe down. I don't know if it's their type of thing but you have nothing to lose.:(

local agents and stealers all say new dizzy. it would be heart breaking to have to spend that sort of silly money for the sake of a couple of springs.. and recons / second hand units are like hens teeth from what I can see.. blue tops common as you like, black tops not.

Most common cause of misfiring on LPG when accelerating is a weak mixture, either down to incorrect settings, empty tanks or air leaks on the induction side.
Use good quality plugs, NGK for preference. You may want to close the gaps up slightly. Don't use the multi contact plugs as they should only be used in cars that are fitted with them as OE. (That's from NGK not just my opinion. Some technical reason which went way over my head!)
If you have a non genuine rotor arm & dizzy cap remove & throw away. Genuine only for those two items (to be absolutely certain I buy them from a dealer, not cheap, but I haven't had any problems so far), cheap pattern ones are the source of a lot of problems.

try giving Steve Hill in Brislington a shout. 01179 717444

Have you tried asking eightinavee if he can help?

or Finlandia on Thomas way in Glastonbury (I don't have their number so you'll have to find it yerself).

There's also a landy specialist in Melksham (just behind the petrol station on sandridge common) at the junction of church road and blackmore drive. Drive down to the end of the lane behind the petrol station and it'll be on your left. He also keeps stocks of secondhand parts

Landrovers UK in Mells also keep a stock of secondhand parts 01373 813671
