Hi everyone, I was just checked the valves on my Series 3 Petrol and found there was a lot of mayonnaise under the rocker cover. I have done a compression test and I does not look like the head gasket has gone. The Land Rover lives outdoors and has sat still a good deal this year. it has a bonnet mounted spare wheel and water does leak through (I know I will mend this), could it be possible that rain water is somehow getting into the rocker cover from above? The oil on the dipstick looks normal and not 'milky'... Thanks

if its not leaking oil its water tight, the water is from combustion its a byproduct and collects unless engine gets some hard work/ longer journeys

I got same issue, only in colder months. I only do a few miles at the weekend, so I started running it for 25 mins midweek and although it's still there, it has reduced it.

Used to be very common on older vehicles, often in Cities, where short runs without the engine getting fully warmed through are common.
Take the motor out for a good run once a week, it will probably not come back.

Check the breather on the top of the rocker cover is clear. The mesh may be clogged with mayo. Clean it out and that may help reduce the build up.

Do a long run up to temp, you have to get the oil hot enough to boil the water off and push it out the breather.
Thanks all, I will try to get it up to temp more often. Was just surprised at the amount! I have soaked and cleaned out the breather as well
