Maxx Raxx cycle carriers?

Hi,

First post on here.

Am looking for feedback from anyone with experience of using a Maxx Raxx cycle carrier on a Defender with an adjustable height towbar.

Any advice welcome.

get a pendle bike rack and you wont be sorry.last for ever.

This is the route I'll go with mine. A MaxxRaxx seem sooo expensive in comparison for my needs!

BoB - I notice that on the Pendle the bikes might slide around...how do you overcome this? I don't fancy my bikes getting scratched ...

I have the 5 bike Maxxraxx on my Disco. I think it's a cracking bit of kit, and when combined with the wall mount bracket, give me a nice working stand as well.

Had a look at the Pendle one and does look good but have the same concerns as Woody3 about the bikes not being fully secured.

Have asked Maxxraxx for some advice about the adjustments needed to the towbar - if it is nothing major then think will give the Maxxraxx a go and let you know how it works out.

pendle bike racks do hangers and stand on.

the hang racks are good and so long as you spend a bit of time to start with to see how to put your style of bike on there fine.

i have a towbar mount stand on bike rack.

i have it on my defender now.

Ah got ya.

How does the stand on one effect the spare wheel. Do you have to take the spare wheel off the back of your Defender?

Update on the MaxxRaxx cycle carrier - basically it is a good bit of kit.

Easy to fit and can lower the rack to allow partial opening of the rear door. Only problem was that it wasn't compatible with the type of bikes we have due to type of construction with spring strut attached to the cross beam but would be ideal for bikes with a normal cross beam.

No problems returning for refund as not suitable for my particular situation.

You can get adapters for the bike that solve that problem - Thule do them

We have a Maxxraxx to carry all four bikes in the home. Simply excellent bit of kit, solidly put together. Quick summary is here, since then Little Missy has grown and has a new bike which goes on the rack.

The rack fits our adjustable-height towbar, which is slightly modded:

Basically, two hex head bolts (visible at the bottom) go through the carrier and brace it against the frame. Two nuts lock to hold it in place. That stops the towbar rocking with the bikes on it and keeps everything stable.
