Major brake problems

Ahhh... cheers, well the new cylinder seems to be working (140 miles in so far) and seems to be working ok, and I have progressive braking again! woop woop!

Im lost as to the servo bit..

I know where the vacuum pump is.. I know where the master cylinder is... but where is the servo (please dont laugh im not that technically minded, dads the engineer!)

(I get the understanding of the theory of releasing the vacuum and thus releasiung the pressure.. but how to do it.. god knows)

The servo is the big black (normaly) round thing that the master cylinder bolts to. Did you change that as well?

Lol no, havent changed it!! Dad when he had the cylinder out gave it a rattle around in the big hole in the middle, but change it!? Its big black and shiny.. and quite clean, why would you need to change it?

Seriously though, no we didnt change it, dad had a rattle around inside it but its been the same one throughout..

However even with the previous 2 cylinders the brakes have never had the same "feel" they do now.. it is more progressive and isnt "all on" from the outset at the tinyest touch of the pedal.

I guess time will tell.... im already over a tenth of the way into the distance the otherine "died" after.. so not long till I know I guess.

The 'rattle around' normaly centres the pushrod for the mechanism, if you are lucky it will hold out. But to be honest this is the only thing that can hold on the brakes on as hard as you indicated. I hope it stays working.

Well next time it happens (can't you tell im full of optimism) I guess it'll be another trip to Rodgers to get a new one.. or a rummage round the scrappys to get an "ok" one...

Cheers for the help much appreaciated!!!

Ps..

My wipers dont work on intemittent... its annoying any ideas? They work on constant but not the little switch.. ever since I wired up some spots.. think I put it on the wrong contact on the relay (sparked) then the wipers never worked on intermittent,.. its a diff relay I sparked (one dangling in the bonnet just for the spots) coincidence or did I kill somthing else with it?

Oh and when going on the motorway at like 85ish my drivers door seems to want to peel away... normal, or was a 200tdi just not designed to go over 80?

You might want to start a new thread, and let this one go to sleep for awhile.

The handbrake operates a drum system on the back of the transfer box stopping the propshaf from rotating, using it will have no effect on the differential.

I hope your fix turns out right,

Dave

Now where as the handbrake may not affect the diff by direct fitment to it .... it is worth adding to the above paragraph (which could be interpreted as advising the use of the hand brake to slow the vehicle when in motion) ............... DO NOT apply the hand brake when the vehicle is moving ......... it WILL affect your diff, half shafts, prop and maybe even engine/gearbox mounts if your really unlucky

Hope this clears up that little slip :p ;)
