I've been sticking neodymium magnets to my filters and things for years and have not had one fall off or come off in the jetwash. In fact they are so strong I sometimes have issues pulling them off!

Yep that a magnetic drain plug - look at the metal stuck to it

These neo magnets will do the same thing

Remember to keep the magnet on the drain plug as you remove it and it will bring all the crap out with it!!

Magnet stuck to inside or outside of drain plug?
The magnet would be more efficient if it was on the inside of the plug.

But its better to stick the magnet to the head of the bolt unless you go out and buy bolts with magnet inserts :doh:

I'm not doubting you just asking. I have a couple of small super strong magnets so I'll give it a go. Nothing to lose. I also use one glued to the end of an old dipstick to pick up dropped nuts and bolts from the most awkward of places.

Having thought about sticking the super strong mags to the inside of the drain plug I suppose getting the bit and pieces off would be a bugger. I have some strong magnets from an old hard drive that accidently dropped into the bucket I use for the swarf from my lathe and I had to literally pull each little bit off one at a time with tweezers to clean them.

I agree with Lorri789, I use these from hard drives...very effective and free.

I use these in vehicles with power steering I put them in the resevoir and, as has been already said, it's amazing what it's picked up over the years

Did a bit of experimenting today. Stuck a 20mm neo magnet to a 50mm long 12mm dia bolt and was surprised at how much magnetism effect was at the other end of the bolt. I could pick up another 50mm bolt with no problem so sticking the magnet to the outside of the drain bolt should have a similar effect.
