Outer race and shim fell off no problems, I'm on about the bush and spacer beneath reverse gear, do they get pressed off by first gear/bearing, or do I need to pull those off?

These ones here on the right of the bearing:

Go away!

I want 4hp24 with compushift and immediate lockup torque converter if anything.

Or maybe r380 out of a d2.

Or maybe just stick with my joyous always part broken never fully broken lt77 :D

I'll PM you my mobile no, will have lots of nice bits to spare before long.

Given up on the first R380 as it was totally knackered, might be useful for some bits yet though.

Shed was getting a bit of a nightmare to move about in, 3 transfer boxes, 2 manual gearboxes, and 1 autobox!

Stuffed a load of it into my trailer for storage:

At least I can now crack on stripping down the next R380 to see if that one is repairable or a hybrid can be fashioned. On closer inspection of the other one the 1st 2nd selector hub casting was actually shattered, only the selector ring was holding it together.

Started to dismantle the other R380 which I'd had high hopes for...

Pulled the oil seal collar off:

Dropped the turret off, undid the extension housing bolts and split the case... to find...

Layshaft rear support bearing has eaten itself and taken out the 5th lay gear :/

Casing looks a bit knarly, doubt I'll get a new bearing to seat in there well, lots of teeth and rollers in the bottom:

Removed the front housing cover to check the state of the bearings, they look OK, so fingers crossed most of the gears won't be missing teeth:

you have rear extension case from the other box

Yeah, can probably swap it on no bother.

Got a question I'm hoping you might be able to help me with, the overhaul manual refers to a mainshaft thrust collar roll pin, I've not found this in either box - is this something the D2 boxes don't have or is it common for it to go walkies?

See here:
rollpin.jpg

roll pin was discontinued back in the 90s as pin stopped collets rotating on the shaft, rear of main shaft often snapped at collet location prior to pin removal, when you fit collets you must ensure 5th rotates freely and is not tight against collets, you can just leave collets out of earlier box or swap collets for later type and collet securing ring and oil feed ring

Gotcha, wish there was a newer manual I could get my hands on!

So here's what the collets and securing ring look like - seemed to be quite a gap to the bearing track... presumably the oil pickup ring keeps the securing ring in check?
