LRO Magazine and P38

I think that Neil Watterson has made himself look like a right tit the way he wrote that article. Like he was working on the P38 and his spanner slipped or something and he went inside and wrote a ****ty article while still in a bad mood.

Like someone said earlier I buy that magazine every month hoping to see articles on Range Rovers and I am more often than not disappointed. I notice the series they started on renovating a Classic (Rimmers, couple of issues back) has now finished after 2 chapters! I thought and was looking forward to them stripping it all down and getting it looking and working mint. But no, back to Defenders and stripping rusty bits off old series vehicles.

Don't get me wrong, I love Defenders and one day will buy one but the RR is a major part of LR history and should have a larger proportion of the mag.

I say once again, Watterson is a TIT.

I also wonder each month why I subsctibe to LRO - after Wattersons miss informed rant I reckon I will not renew next time.
The problem with the P38 they bought is very simple
Unlike their buyers guide they bought a basic spec "DT" old workhorse with little or no history, just looking at the Sh 1 t on the heater controls shows that it hasn't been cared for. They should practice what they preach "buy the best you can afford" and avoid the rough ones at all costs - then write good articles on how to make a P38 more affordable to own, run and repair by doing home repairs on the faults that can be home repaired - I reckon thats about 80% of them.
And finally - of course the gear stick obscures the heater controls if they had bought one with air con they would be able to see the only button you need "AUTO" in any gear......

well we all know the truth, any car is prone to problems. i dont think injuring the poor misguided fool will help, maybe a stiff letter to LRO stating how annoyed you are as a subscriber and invite him to take a look at your range, or mine as it has just gone through its test with only minor everyday fixes for advisories.

if he thinks landrovers are a bag of bolts why work for a landrover magazine anyway. he may be more suited to Smart Car Owners International!!!

Don't bother, the first thing you are taught as a journo is how to ignore the great unwashed, since (of course) the only reason they disagree with you is as a result of their stupidity.

Vote with your feet and put them out of a job. Even then they won't get the point but at least you won't have to read any more of that drivel...

I'm not so sure, I sent an e-mail to the editor John Pearson politely explaining my stance on the article and he at least acknowledged he had read it. Perhaps if enough people complained they may realise that the article wasnt a true reflection on the model itself.
 
I've had a p38 4.6 for 2 years now. have spent alot of cash onit, but only on improvements. Yes, the head gaskets did go. But not really all that expensive. Me and the missis have covered 30,000 miles in two years and it has never let us down. I was thinking of selling it but whats the point. What could I get thats any better. It turns heads every where it goes with the janspeed system burbbleing along. I like my car and I am not going to sell it. I enjoy getting my hands dirty, they are not that complecated to work on.

Dunno whay i'm doing over in this section but hi anyway, i agree, LRO is full of iffy facts and dodgy articles. There's a whole article on HHO gas but it doesn't actually tell you anything useful about it (ie that it's a complete waste of time), only the story of some bloke who's fitted it and done thousands of miles with it, no results! The mag is full of typos, anomalies, factual inaccuracies, it tried to send us down a load of private lanes in its greenlaning section a couple of months agt, it's a fookin liability!!!

I admire your trust but since this is only the latest in a line of similar P38 bashing articles, and that I know for a fact that several such polite and considered complaints have been made previously, I fear my view on the attitude of the magazine's staff to these complaints is entirely justified.

All you are doing is massaging their egos. Sad but true.

Hi All,
I emailed the editor to politely point out what I thought of the article, that I know he wouldn't print my letter, and also that he should rename the Mag Landrover (but not Range Rover) Owner International so that we would know for sure that we were not wanted and could spend our subscriptions on something else.
