I have a LR 90, 1987. Catching a pot hole or drain cover causes a wheel wobble. have fitted a replacement steering damper and as best I can test all steering joints seem to be ok. All segestions welcome
 
Geoff I was experiencing similair problems with my daughters 90, I had adjusted wheel bearings/adjusted swivels/ replaced track rod ends/ replaced damper/ changed tyres and checked tracking all to no avail. So I decided to replace all the bushes on the radius arms and panhard rod, it was whilst I was about to undo the axle end of the panhard rod that I found the culprit, the bolt had been worn through on the inner side of the bracket and just needed a new bolt fitting and that is it now cured. Not saying this is your problem but it could be a quick and cheap fix if it is.
 
I've got same problem on my 110, had the wheel bearings done and no change. Just put it in to a freindly garage for a quick check before MOT and found out I've got NO bushes left:eek: Whilst sittin' on the bog, as ye do, and looking thru' LROI(august iss 9 2006) they dun a thing on bushes for a disco, and it seems that it dun the trick:D I'll let ye know when I get mine dun ( hopefully next week):D
 
By the way, does anyone know the difference between Polybush and Deflex? I know Deflex are cheaper, and both are polyurethane, but will they outlast bog standard LR bushes:confused:

I dunno but there are some that reckon either don't last five minutes!!!!!!!!!! I went down the road of spending a fortune on suspension on my bike and could hardly tell the difference! So I'm buying bog standard stuff for the landy and saving a fortune. I doubt if it makes a ha'porth of difference!

Need a full kit pretty quick, as well as an o/s front outrigger, MOT next week:eek:
Haven't got round to fitting that bulkhead yet, managed to patch up old one and the mot bloke quite happy with it:D
 
Should be MOTing mine on satdy. Had a load of trouble with the brakesdone the front, renewing the rear drums etc when they get here. Hopefully all the bulkhead rot is well hidden so it should pass.

It's amazing wot ye can do do wi' sum gutter seal, body filler, and an old bit of metal shelving, not forgetting the radiator enamel paint and sum pot rivets;)
 
I'd like to think so, but it'll be comin' off as soon as funds allow:D Too much other stuff to sort first tho'. Just ordrered them polyurethane bushes today, guy in the shop reckons they're a bit better than standard and not too much dearer:cool: Will see how they get on, suppose owt's better than nowt:D
 
Does 'Wheel wobble' mean a severe shaking of the steering wheel (like mega unbalanced wheels) - cos mine does the same if it encounters a pot hole or sudden bump in the road at 45mph+. S**t myself when it first happened! If I slow right down it stops and is ok again.
 
Check the drop arm is attached to the spline on the bottom of the steering box properly - sounds like you've got the Land Rover equivalent of a 'tank slapper' going on.
 
Thought I'd add to this subject as the postings here saved me a lot of time and money. I had the exact same symptoms as Geoff on my 1984 CSW 110. As it happened, I had a 2" lift kit ready to install, so did that anyway, meaning to deal with the wobble next - and to my surprise the problem seemed to go away... but this only lasted about a month and back it came.
A quick check (pull) on the panhard rod showed the bushes worn so I replaced them - turns out thats all it was - a total cost of... £1.34! What other vehicle could you repair for £1.34 ?
