Hi people,
Can some of you fine people help me?
I am considering purchacing a discovery with lpg convertion but don't know what fuel figgers to expect. Also how many miles can you expect to put on a discovery motor.
A new baby and a love of camping means i need more space than what my Citroen zx has.
What are the things i should look out for when buying one, such as common problems etc?
Any help fould be much appreciated

:blabla:Depending on whether you whant a Disco 1 or 2 , Disco 1's sufer from much the same as Classic Range Rovers iner sills outer sills and rear body cross members all sufer from rust but can be replaced reasonably easy also check the rear floor as they can coroad badly aswell also check the chasis in all the useual places that collect crap and stay damp for long periods.
Others on this forum will be able to go more in depth than this but I hope it is off some help

the engine will go on forever as long as it is serviced and not thrashed. you need to look for rust more than anything else and dont forget that anything that is metal will rust! make sure that the truck switches over to gas ok and runs with no missing or backiring.dont forget that if you have a gas tank in the boot you will lose loadspace and so underslung tanks are more desirable.

From your description you'll better off with a converted Disco that has underslung tank's, as from camping point of view the Disco's boot space ain't too big unless you partition it with shelving (but I do have 4 kids & a dog:eek: to fit in), but a simple addition is a roof rack/box to assist with the load carrying.

With an LPG conversion you'll get roughly between 18 & 25 mpg (depending on how heavy your foot is) roughly the same running cost's as a diesel Disco.

With regular tlc a Disco's motor (diesel or petrol) can do a lot's of mile's.

Greatest issue will be rust, have a search as there are lot's of thread' on this forum about it .... oh and :welcome2:

Geezer been running a v8 conversion for about 6 months now and yes when you do the maths works about same as diesel although the tank capacity on my torpedos is very limited, only manage about 45l in from empty which means regular stops to fuel up. I did speak to a bloke who gets 60l in his yet tanks looked identical. He reckoned if you over fill them they reduce their capacity.... can anyone shed any light. On the up cheap gas and no worries on emissions

Hi
My 2000 d2 does around 13mpg round town and 17 on a run so if you compare to petrol prices it's about 22 and 30.
I have a small petrol tank (25l) and twin 40l tanks where the original petrol tank was. This gives me 65l capacity of gas (always take 20% off tank size) which will do 200miles on average plus about 75 on petrol.
The ignition system needs to be in top condition as gas will show up any problems in plugs / leads /coil packs etc.

If you have limited mechanical experience and just want a reliable truck, forget the LPG V8 and buy a TDI,its much more long term reliable and any garage will work on it.Many garages inc LR independants will not touch LPG.
There is nothing wrong with LPG,but its harder work to keep 100%.Despite many owners claims most LPG converted V8's dont give their best on LPG.

Just done leads (8mm) running alot sweeter now. Seems to pull much better under a load. I noted when took dizzy cap off a very slight bit of wear on rotor arm, i am guessing its the norm. Will order new for peace of mind. I am hoping fuel econ rises now
