Morning everyone,
My 02 reg V8i ES Discovery has just had both head gaskets replaced (heads skimmed etc) by our local garage following a sudden rise in temperature and loss of water. No engine temperature/water problems had occured previously.
After re-assembly the engine would not start as one cylinder had water in it causing a hydraulic lock. I am told that this was caused by porosity in the block or heads. In any event a "ceramic based liquid compound" was added to the cooling system. This appeared to cure the internal leak and the the following road tests were ok.
When I collected the vehicle after a couple of miles I noticed that petrol had been selected manually and I switched to auto (LPG) almost immediately the engine started to fade and the coolant temperature rose very quickly. The engine then stopped. On inspection at the roadside the vapourizer appeared to be under extreme pressure and was leaking gas which had frozen on the top of the engine. The water hose connections to the vapourizer were also leaking.
The engine started ok on petrol and was driven back to garage without problem.
Would very much appreciate any help on this disaster!!
