Low and High Gear box issue left me sat in a river.

lol what a plonker! Can't believe you didn't work out what all the levers do before you tried deep wading.. and without a snorkel! blimey you were very lucky.

I'm guessing you will either be a reg on here or you won't have the defender long

 :D :p :hysterically_laughi
Luckily i do have a snorkel (don't know why people think i don't), hence the jump in before testing the water approach. I expected to get wet and possible winch my self out.... granted i've never used a winch. Sooooooooo either way probably not the best idea.

I will probably take her over to salisbury Plain in the new year so people can laugh at my lack of knowledge / skill there as well. Will keep you posted on how bad things go.

Erm, i hate to be a killjoy but i wouldnt do that either :rolleyes:

If i was you i would ask in the "off roading" section if someone will help you. Meet up with a few people from here at a pay and play and get to know your vehicle properly.

You may have been pretty lucky with your first outing but next time you may not be that lucky.

With regards to your problem selecting low/high box i would post the thread in the defender section after you have tried the following:

Take the gator off your gear stick and work the transfer box lever(the little one) back and forth a few times. It may not have been used very much before you got it and could be a little siezed or covered in crap. either way grease/lube might help.

Hi Thanks for the advice, your probably right. Apparently theres a really good pay and play in the New Forest down where i am in dorset. Might pop across there.

Also decided to print of a defender manual, 500+ pages took a little bit of time.

ive only ever seen constant 4wd lt95s ,ive seen early rrc ones with lsd in center diff, if there was any truth in it it would truly be a first for me ,why would you only do that option for v8s ?considering series 3 v8 is constant 4wd

Selectable 4x4 was for four cylinder models between 83-84. V8s were full time from the start
