If the lever isn't working properly, it could be stuck in transfer neutral?
The diff lock has no neutral it is locked or unlocked cant lose the driveWhat year is your D2? Got diff lock?
I’m grabbing at straws here but get a 10mm spanner, crawl underneath and check if diff lock is fully disengaged and not in neutral (middle) position.
there is a neutral between high and low rangeThe diff lock has no neutral it is locked or unlocked cant lose the drive
.....which has nothing to do with diff lockthere is a neutral between high and low range
They use the same lever and part of the same box......which has nothing to do with diff lock
Forward is Lo on mine (D2)... Sounds like you need to ... fit the linkage and... start your own thread... (?)So I have fitted a 300tdi engine and autobox from a Disco 1 into a Defender 90 for she who must be obeyed.
The problem is it feels like it is in low ratio when on drive.
Have checked transfer case hi/lo and pulled it all the way forward (hi lo linkage is missing). Is it all the way forward for hi?
It seems to click in and out without difficulty, but still feels like lo.
I can feel all 4 gears engaging, kickdown is a bit slow, but tops out 30mph. Also has fierce engine braking!
Diff lock working ok.
Wondering if the problem is internal to TC.

You should push the hi-low rod against the other side and if it behaves the same you knowWondering if the problem is internal to TC.
Right. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth later....

Is it damp?Decided to remove the housing with the linkage attached - its free.
Looks like its the shaft inside the TC that is frozen.
Will fire some WD40 in and then try to manhandle to free it up.⅔

My D1 has never had the hi lo used, I removed the gaiter and found the shart had seized. Is it damp?
If not try penetrating oil
If that's the same shaft that I had to free off, I managed to get a spanner on the flat part that goes to the arm that points down.So. Lovely Sunday morning on the tools.
Hi/Lo shaft (the keyed shaft where the shift lever fits in) inside the transfer case is just jammed solid (see pic).
I have taken off the seat box to get access, next move I am guessing is to take the gearbox tunnel off.
Have soaked in WD40 but it wont budge. Have put a bit of grease on.
Its jammed all the way forward (appears to be stuck in low range).
Thinking of jacking up all 4 wheels to release any tension ( gearbox already in N and diff unlocked) and see if I can get any movement at all.
I can obviously.see the shaft in the TC but it is solid and wont move forward or back.
Worst case is take the TC out?
