Gas? Gas is for cooking. :p

This weekend i'll have a look at a few more. Two L322 and some P38's. Maybe i'm just very picky, but i just want to get a "good" on or one that so cheap that it doesn't matter much. The P38's go for either below 3000 euro or above 8000 euro. Only very few in between. There are some with coil's instead of bags, but i do want one with bags. Just to see what it is like. Converting it is always an option later. Thor engine is a must and i prefer to have a 4.6 over a 4.0 although there are some nice looking 4.0's for sale.

You could get your scrotum amputated just to see what's its like too. Not really that preferable :p:rolleyes::oops:

no.. no it's not

The Drama continues :p Went to a LR dealer this time. Had a L322 there, looked nice ... on the pictures. On arrival not so much. Mirror nearly falling off, missing plastic parts, bold tires, even the cover in the middle of the dash was missing. Not worth my 13k euros. Ah well, next. So i drove for another hour to see a P38 Autobiography. The guy came out, young bloke. I asked if i could have a look at the car. Sure. Looked at the service history. Last 5 years missing, but the last bill was a 8000 euro's one. Damn. Lots of stuff replaced at the front of the car. Strange. Ah well. The inside of the car looked nice. As most of them do but the sunroof was leaking. I opened the hood. Trouble started there. Very oily engine. Lets just say it was well preserved :p It looked like the car has been in a collision. right front was repaired but you could still see the mangled bits where the headlight is. Not good. I knew this car was a no go. I asked the guy to start it while i was looking at the engine. Ofc the battery was dead. Oh nooo he said. I started to smile, they didn't know a thing about range rovers. Jump started it. It started nicely, but there was a funny smell. After a few seconds it started to smoke a bit. Ok. I asked him to close the door and see if the car would level. Nope :p only 1 bag came up. he asked4500 euro for it. I told him this was way too much for this car. You can't even take this for a test drive with the suspension staying in access mode. I felt sorry for the guy :p

Looks like the L322 is just not within my budget. Thats 5 cars now which didn't pass my check list. Tomorrow i have a few P38 to visit. Hopefully i find one which is ok. I know there are 3 good ones. but they are 8000 to 10000 euros. not so sure if thats worth it. I do know one which is close to my place, but has a defect airco and climate control. Might be trouble.

You could always get a right hand drive car, plenty of people in the UK drive left hand drive cars or just buy an X5..

yeah, he only had one which wasn't working (ofc you need to replace all 3 of them), but also one bag which was leaking. Pump kept pumping. Took serveral tries to get it into offroad mode. Those can be replaced too, i know. but the biggest issue was oil. There was some serious sweating from the front of the engine. Blocked breather maybe? Rear axles were sweating on to the brake disc covers. Other then that the car looked ok, owner (no garage this time) was honest about most issues with it. Some he just didn't mention :p Of all the low to mid range priced P38's this was the best one i could find.

I'm about to travel to the other side of the country to have a look at the 3 highest priced P38's. Plus point is they have warranty and this specialist does seem to care about the cars he's selling.

Well, i've looked at 2 more L322 and 4 more P38's. One of the cheaper P38's had moss on the engine block and several gallons of water in the spare tire place. The most expensive P38's also didn't come without problems. One was a bit strange, when you let go of the gaspedal a whining noise appeared. Sounds like gearbox issues to me. They still had to look at it, getting that fixed might increase selling price he told me. I've called the guy from my previous post again. Leaky air suspension and some sweating are issues i can live with.

i've never looked at the 4.0, but if that 4.6 doesn't drive nice i might just start looking at those as well.

Could be gearbox or diffs....

the 4.0 THOR is on a par with the 4.6 GEMS, the 4.0 is a bit sluggish compared to the 4.6 with most of the difference in initial acceleration off the line with the extra torque from the bigger capacity, but liveable with aslong as you don't need to drive like a lunatic!

Having had both, when I had the 4.0, I was always wanting to 'want' a little more from it, if you see what I mean....if I had never driven the 4.6 I wouldn't notice nor want from it.....but as I have had 4.6 previous...the 4.0 was (disappointing is the wrong word) just a bit lacking...but not in a bad way...just a .... a.... can't find the word.....
