Not all insurance is the same. Most do not cover green laneing is a added extra.

Check with adrian flux 1 of our sponsors. And they give a discount for being a LZ member. Send a PM to jordan.............. And welcome to the mad house;)

Why should green lane cover be extra? After all it's a public right of way / road Off road use on private land would be different.

Just wondering its probs a grey area with insurance on lanes.

Because insurance companys can and do, take it up with them not me. Just passing the word (Help) on to you before you get into the ****s for not being covered.

Unless you're prepared to pay these high quotes, buy something that is cheap to insure and at least get 12 months ncb behind you. You're only 17 and have a lifetime of Land Rover experience/torture ahead of you, don't rush into it. I'm not really one to give this advice since I learnt to drive/pass test on a Series 1, but in those days fully comp without any ncb was £40. The other thing I would say is to avoid price comparison sites, phone insurance companies individualy and you'll get a far better deal. There is no room for negotiation on a price comparison site, some of the cheaper deals are cheap for a reason, so avoid. Good luck ;)

Unfortunately there are no magical insurance companies that insure land rovers for buttons, its all business

Yeh, but in the UK the Insurance Business is Silly Business. My boy is 18 and hadn't even past his test when he got his first car, a Rover Tomcat 220 Turbo, and it cost him 55 quid to insure for the year.

Its not a legal requirement to have car insurance here in New Zealand (which is rather pathetic in itself) but it does mean the insurance companies can't just gang together and fix prices. He does have a very big 900 quid excess though.

I had to drive a 1.0ltr vw polo for 2 years and paid over 1500 for first year! As the years went by I slowly upgraded to a nicer ford focus tdci, then on my 4th year got a sports car (insurance about 500) and now just got a landy 5 years after passing test (insurance on landy is nearly as much as sports car haha), insurance came down every year though even with up grading :)

So I'd say start from the bottom be careful to build your ncd then work your way up.

You could save your self say 700 quid driving a crappy car for a year or two then put that money towards a landy in good condition.

I asked my insurance company why the old slow rusty (best thing I've ever bought) LR was so expensive, they told me they are put in a higher insurance group because of 4wd and there weight.
Don't let the insurance companies rob you blind (too much)

I completly forgot to reply to this. Ended up getting the series 3 in my profile picture (avatar) and insured TPFT with adrian flux for under £1650

I can't believe people are recommending Flux! Have you all forgotten this thread? http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f16/my-adrian-flux-ulr-insurance-claim-woes-248943.html

Have you ever seen a policy that excludes part of the road network? That's like saying 'some don't cover B roads'

Constant repetition just perpetuates the myth and plays into the hands of brokers that try to make out their product is 'special'

"Use us we'll cover you on Motorways at no extra cost"

I was in your same situation nearly 2 years ago. It's going to be expensive. It was for me. Though not as much as you have been quoted. What didn't help is that my D90 is a station wagon and not a van, which instantly made things more expensive + the fact its got a few modifications. I got my insurance through Flux... Haven't had any problems. Then again I haven't had any incidents (and hopefully I never will).
