Anyone know why my 3litre 2010 sport bellows humongous amounts of white smoke on med to hard accel 2000 rpm plus. After oil change It seems to do this every time she gets an oil change. Last time it didn't stop until after about 1500 miles when I removed and replaced the oil filter Fresh oil was measured exactly to spec so it's not been overfilled. Ta, sheriff

Considering you've stated that it only happens after changing oil, I would say it has to do with oil quality.
Just guessing here, but maybe the new stuff is a bit too light for your engine, allowing it to seep past valve seals and piston rings and burning in the combustion chambers.
That would explain why it stopped smoking the last time after you had driven it for a while, at which time the oil would have thickened up a bit with the suspended by-products of combustion and such.
 
Hi thanks, I only use manufacturers recommended Castrol 5/30 it's even done it after main stealer service, but I didn't notice it until 6 weeks after as I now drive like miss daisy . It's really bad when does it can't see car behind poor devils
 
Kevwill, temp fine, I think it may be possibly an airlock in turbo lube drain only does it under med to heavy accel 2500rpm + ease off smoke goes, will cruise @ 70mph no probs same with gentle accel really annoying until it decides to behave
 
To much oil in the sump .wrong dipstick.If it stop after a while its burnt off the excess oil .
Pardon my ignorance but is it petrol or diesel? I had a Citroen CX diesel run away with me on the motorway due to the previous owner removing the steel mesh in the engine breather. Trying to stall the engine in fifth gear standing on the brakes, topping 100 mph, was exciting. God help those I overtook because I couldn't see the motorway in my mirrors for the smoke.:eek::D:D
 
In answer to you both, I measured the oil 1lt at a time to recommended amount 5.9lts. Car is 3lt diesel and doesn't have a dipstick, flipping electronic readout on dash. Fed up with the "bridge to engine room, make smoke"
 
make sure is fully synth Castrol Edge 5W30, its what we use with all engines from 2005 (not including TD5 motors),

Is it leaking from the turbo drain tubes ?
 
Jonnyb1990 yes I only use Castrol edge 5/30 fully synthetic, can you explain more about the turbo drain tube sounds interesting, I just want to prevent the smoke rather than having to keep stopping it, if that makes sense ? Thanks Sheriff.
 
If it was burning oil it would be blue smoke,white smoke is water,probably just condensation building up in the cats and silencers,it will only be burning it off as the exhaust temp rises when reving it more
 
Gmacz sorry mate no pics/vids as it doesn't smoke when vehicle is stationary only when accelerating, bit too busy driving the thing to try and take photos etc of smoke screen left behind. It's defo oil smoke. Surely someone else has come across this problem and how to prevent it.
 
I had a Vauxhall Cavalier petrol which did that.......... a brand new car and it had 5 to 7 litres too much oil in it (yes 5 to 7 litres!!). Was fine after I drained off the excess.

Hi guys need some tech advice. Have been told that the problem is likely to be vacuum pump, the guy disconnected one of the vac lines under one of the engine covers and there was traces of oil in the pipe. He says due to warm weather and fresh oil being so thin 5/30 fully Sinth it's getting past the seals in vac pump and I have 2 options.
1. Stick with it until oil thickens up a bit with use and outside temp drops (this makes sense as last year it was June when it was serviced and problem stopped in late sept)
2. Change vac pump.
Now here's where I need some tech advice ! I understand the fresh oil getting past the seals bit, positive pressure oil feed, negative pressure (vacuum) but how is the oil getting into the engine/exhaust/turbo or where ever to create the smoke and why only on hard acceleration ie, kick down etc. In my day (pre turbo) the vacuum was created directly by the negative pressure in the inlet manifold which is why I understand that with turbos you get a positive inlet pressure and hence need a vacuum pump , but I'm completely fooked on this one how the oils getting where it produces rhe dreaded smoke screen. Please help me understand. :( Thanks a positively bemused Sheriff !!

If the engine is running on engine oil your knuckles would be white and your hair grey. Had a Citroen CX run away with me because the last owner had removed the wire mesh from the engine breather. You couldn't see the three lanes of the M56 behind me as it topped 110 mph.Stood on the brakes untill it stalled it's self.:eek:
 
I had something like that as well with a scimitar, everytime i pressed the brake hard, smoke poured out the back of the exhaust, the master cyl was leaking into the leaking servo and it was burning the brake fluid.
Brakes were a bit better when all the leaks were sorted.

Dunno but is there anyway the Venturi effect of high pressure air rushing over a small house could suck oil into the intake? Could that be how your vac pump thing is causing this?

There are no small houses under the bonnet of a Sport.:oops: sorry couldn't help myself. I think if the engine starts running on engine oil there would be no control of the rev's, they just run ungoverned.
