Tremendous, yes I read you advising that earlier and that's exactly what I'll do. I suppose I could just solder the new wires alongside each other and put some shrink sleeve over it. :)

'Proper' crimps are the best way to join wires, however proper kit is V expensive (not the Halfords stuff), If you don't know someone with that sort of kit then a good soldered joint would be next best. Make sure to slide a couple of length of heatshrink on the wire before you solder it, shrink one length of heat shrink over the joint and then the second over the top of the first. Make sure the sleeving is a couple of inches longer than the joint to get a good weather seal, two lengths give you a bit of extra protection from chafing.

OK, I've tried to follow this thread as I want to improve my headlights, but I'm afraid I've got a bit lost with all the chatter about specs. Can any of the experts here present, now that the debate appears to be over, tell me what I need to make the "Defender wiring loom" marketed by Paddocks under the "Boomslang" name work in a 1995 300Tdi 110 Defender?
I must say that I'm not impressed that a major supplier can market something like this that doesn't do what it purports to do without some extra bits'n pieces being required. Good to know that there's expertise here that can overcome that, but why should it be necessary when something's marketed as "plug'n play"?

It should work , if you wire it into the alternator. If you do a search for headlight upgrade , you will find plenty of threads regarding what is required.

Cheers

I guess somebody just got a dud. As said, you could attach your live feed to the alternator if you done want to buy / extend / join cable.

I'm no expert, but I might be fitting mine tomorrow. Depends on the weather and how I'm feeling. I've had a very bad cold virus this week. Started feeling better this afternoon (Well, less bad) :) If I do something with it I'll take some pictures of my installation.
