Lift Pump Problem

Went to change my Lift Pump for a new one today, all was going well loosened pipes then went to loosen bolts that hold the pump on the engine,
Just my Luck Looks like someone has had a go before as one of the bolts is stripped, tried everything but could not get it to move started snowing like mad so packed in for the day. Problem is getting in as theres very little room to get tools in.
Any Ideas on this one??

if heads rounded use a drift and hammer it till it mushrooms enough to make a hammered on socket a good enough fit

Would give that a go James but there is just no room to get in there, could not get a good enough knock with the hammer.

I've used a 10 hex socket on a 1/4" drive and extension but if it's properly rounded use those Irwin jobbers. If you lived closer I'd give you a hand

Can just say get the socket and extension in, Nyon impossible to get a drill in or anything else.

When I did mine I couldn't get a 1/2" socket on but the 1/4" could just about navigate the injector pipes

why not remove the pipe then , 3/8s sockets are the best for much of any work

Think I'm gonna have to remove something to get in there. This is photo from Busters page, its the same nut on mine that's stripped . As you can see not much room to maneuver any tools about.

As mentioned earlier, try an Irwin bolt extractor. They are the same size as a socket.

Been looking at bolt exractors only ones ive seen start at 10 mm, my rounded bolt is 10 mm so probably need one slightly smaller then 10mm. I Think??

It's hard to describe, but they have a sort of reverse flute in them so they tighten and bite into the head as you slacken off the bolt. I'm sure the 10mm will be fine.

You do have to hammer them on though and if I recall they are 3/8" drive. Can you get a proper 10mm hex socket on as opposed to a bi-hex that tend to round off easier

10mm Bi Hex just spins round the bolt. 6 sided 10mm hex gets a bit of a bite but spins when turned. tried a 9mm but no where near yet

Thanks was looking at them, 22quid to get one bolt out, but I suppose they will come in handy when I come across another bolt which I probably will some where down the line fixing this bloody truck

Problem is hammering it on even after moving bits to get in.

You can use mine, but I come with them as they are my favorite tool!

Smallest size is 8mm. Next up is 10mm. There is an imperial size that looks to be similar to the 10mm or slightly smaller.

There must be room to get a toffee hammer in. The drive on them is 3/8".

£22 is p!$$ all for one bolt.....

I kid you not......for one stuck wheel nut on the L322 I drove 225 miles (a 5 hour journey in Friday evening rush hour traffic) up to West Yorks, Stayed overnight in a hotel (£68), took the car to a company in Castleford for 8.30am, the very nice guy who came out on his day off (as the Company is closed usually on a Saturday - and I was desperate) he took 17 seconds (literally - no lie) to get the wheel nut off, I paid him £50 (£20 for the wheel nut as agreed with his boss on the Friday afternoon and £30 for him to have a few beers and etc)......then drove 4hours back home again Saturday morning...another 225 miles.

So thats 450 miles (two tanks of LPG - £112
Hotel Room - £68
Breakfast - £17 (me and the girlfriend)
Payment to remove the one wheel nut - £50
Replacement wheel nut £14
Total for ONE WHEEL NUT to be removed - £261

At the time - only one company in the UK made a tool that was 100% guaranteed to remove all known locking wheel nuts without fail and with zero damage to the alloy wheel....Dynamec.

They offered a removal service Mon-Fri in business hours if you can get to them, first wheel nut £20 and £10 for each one after that - I only needed one removed but paid the guy £50 for coming out on a Saturday.....

Why was I so anxious to get a wheel nut off.......it was only a few days after i bought the car, and I had done all the other 3 wheels brake pads...the fronts where down to the metal backing....I had done both rears and the other side front.....I needed to get the other side off as I had fresh pads on one side and metal plates on the other....trying to stop 2.5 tonnes of Solihuls finest like that was a fecking nightmare, pulled and bucked all over the place but I had to make the drive up to W. Yorks to get the wheel off so I could replace the pads.....

So £22 for something you can use over and over ain't so bad.....I spent 10 times as much to just get one off...
