Lift or Not Lift

Tjanks for the response guys I can't make up my mind. I reckon i'm going to leave it. If I fit it and don't put bigger tyres on then wats the point??

More body and chassis clearance = better approach and departure angles plus better ramp/breakover angles too.

Plus your new springs are likely to be stronger and more heavy duty than the originals (which might already be worn) and I would want to replace them if I was going overland, and carrying a lot of gear.

I've a 2" lift on mine, it looks great and drives great.

Edit: Also, as for it looking too big for it's boots, check out the pics of mine with 235/85 R16s with a 2" lift. They look alright to me!

see now you gone and got me thinking again. Damn you langers!!!

My thoughts were exactly what you are saying, its had a hard life for anglian water so it is likely to have been used well for 90,000miles. I'm doing the all bushes at the same time time as well so I don't see any problems there.

Wat tyres do you run?

235/85 R16 Insa Turbo Sahara. They're OK despite being really cheap.
Now you've said it was a waterboard vehicle, I'd definitely change the springs. Even if you don't get a lift, get some nice new HD springs for it. They're bound to be worn out.

265's would look ok then for sure.

Here's a piccy of 265's on my unlifted defender.

Bloody lovely looking trucks... both of 'em. I reckon 265/80 would just about right wi a 2" lift though as well. Got me thinking I want some bigger tyres now anorl..

can't see them pics btw Jim

I was torn between 265 special tracks and 235 sahara's. I went for the special tracks in the end. They do like to chuck mud up the sides of my landy though.

tbh mate my td5 is standard and not had much trouble getting about off-roading and it goes around corners on the tarmac like its on rails.
my old 90 has heavy duty rear springs +2" but wont be bothering to raise the front to match not a great fan of body lifting dont stop you running aground on the diff/axle
