Let's talk about bushes ( no sniggering please)

I put SuperPro bushes on mine in the autumn of 2013 and they're still in situ nearly a decade and well over 100,000 miles later. I can't feel any looseness and neither can the MOT inspector, apparently. Even on the front panhard rod! They're more expensive than the average polybush but seem to be worth it
 
not sure but they failed whilst we were in Morocco so much so that his bird wouldn't go in it and got in mine
bushes were all new before we set off
i fitted a bearmach trailing arm bush last mot and when i stripped the4 landy to rebuild it 12month's later it was fubar'd the 12yr old bush on the other side was fine
I had a set of pan rod poly bushes (yellow britpart ones) fault on the single width sheet drop track down from the top of the high Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Made for a terrifying decent. But once onto a wider part where I could stop it took less than 10min to swap them over with the spare set I was carrying in the parts box.

Your trailing arm set may have been ruined because you only did the one side so the loading was uneven. Bushes like that should be replaced as sets especially if you are not doing a like For like.
 
I think poly bushes have their place, race cars and the like.
I should point out to the best of my knowledge no current mainstream truck uses poly bushes, many moons ago Volvo used plastic arb bushes, the bushes wore away the 3 inch diameter arb!

I completely agree with that. I only have poly where the standard rubber ones are such a pain to remove and fit. And have only Fitted them as they need replacing. For example my rear a-frame still runs stock original because the bushes have not failed yet. As stated above I still use oem bushed for the chassis end of the radius arms etc.
 
Poly are the muttz nuttz but ONLY if you buy good ones, (Supapro eg)
far to many sheeeite out there, the usual suspects Terrafookwits, Allshakes, Bearmarkup Sheetpart etc.......
Such a shame this market is flooded with happy shopper chinese crap.....
 
I've got a set of polybushes for my Disco 1, but haven't fitted any yet.

My daily car ia a VW Touran that I fitted a Golf R32 drivetrain to. My wife has a standard version.

I used PowerFlex on them: The entire front end on mine is polybushed and half the rear. Hers is mostly done in the front and also half the rear. Mine has a few fancier ones, for additional adjustment, as it's raised up about 25mm.

I have noticed a tiny amount addition harshness over really rough surfaces (tarseal surfaces breaking up and corrugations etc), and slightly higher noise on course chip seal, but the extra resposniveness is impressive and the additiona tyre life.

When I polybushed the wifes, she didn't even notice any difference, good or bad - HAhaha!

It is important to get decent stuff though.
 
Does anyone have any good recommendations for replacement rear trailing arm bushes. I am happy to go with poly bushes, but there seems to be a vast choice.

Polybush is actually a brand. Do you mean them
Or more generically?

How much do you want to spend. What do you want to achieve. And will you be fitting yourself?

I meant 'poly'urethane bushes. I am replacing as they have come up on the MOT as an observation and I can see the chassis bushes are cracking.

I am not looking to 'upgrade' them but happy to spend money on getting a good product.

And I will be doing the job myself.

The std bushes are actually pretty good, cheap as well.

Do you mean the chassis end of the rear arms or are you looking for all of them? Tbh you’d want to replace the axle end and if the rears need doing is look at doing the fronts.

Pushing the bushes out of the axle ends is hard. And you either need a press or you’ll have to get creative with a drill, hacksaw, hammer and punch.

The chassis end is easy to change. You can buy rubber ones which are cheap and ok. Do you have a particular use for the vehicle? Poly ones will typically last longer and companies like Polybush offer different grades. The Britpart ones are ok too, but you don’t get a choice in grade.

Poly is much easier to fit at home for the axle ends. As you really do need press for rubber bushes.

One thing to note. The rubber bushes you can buy never seem as good as the ones originally fitted at the factory. Even if you buy genuine.

Thanks. I was looking at the Supapro blue or the Polybush Orange. As you mentioned they are a doddle to fit and then replace down the line.

Yes I will be replacing the bushes at both ends.
 
Must confess Heard some horror stories of the orange bushes , on a D3 where the wishbones have split, I always replace the entire arms

But of course different set up on the defenders

have a look on trailerfitters toolbox on you tube, top chap is chris, and he shows you various ways to remove the old bushes, you can of course just burn them out but its not nice black acrid smoke, but if that dont bother you, flame on!!

Or just use a decent bench vice n push them out with two sockets again watch chris's vids
