Disco 2 LED light bars

Morning all,

ive bought a led light bar. question is whats the best way to wire it up?
i was thinking about using the fog light loom as i no longer have any fog lights as ive smashed them off (well mud has)

if any one has any experience they can share that would be awesome as im not great with electrical things.

Mate fitted one to his D1 I warned him it would be noisy on the road at speed, after a couple of weeks hes now going to take it off!

Es ist entirely depending on verr you are intending to be mounting zee lightbar. Mein vass vistling like ein kettle but a small peice of foam underneath zee lightbar ist now eliminating zee noise completely.

bobs correct - the noise is caused by air resonating - stop the air = stop the noise

I've wired mine into the main headlights, so when I go on high beam it turns my LED bar on too, wouldn't be a bad idea to put them on the fogs though if you haven't got them in.

Wiring is simple, just look up a schematic of 4 way relay diagram and go from there.

I have mine on a 2 way relay.

So they are on with main beam, off completely or on independently of lights for when we are camping.

Noise - mmm, don't really notice too much noise over the noise of the D1

Funny that, I've always found it so quiet with mud terrains and a single small box exhaust

To be fair, the Cooper Discoverer STT pro's I have fitted are extremely quiet for muds - believe it or not, no noise increase from when I switched from BFG All Terrains

Noise isn't a main concern of mine as its on all terrains. Didnt buy a landy for quiet travelling around. I'm useless at electrical work. So I need to buy a new relay? The fog light one seems a bit small. It's a 400w led bar so would the fog relay handle that?

I would literally plug it in and got with the flow, 400w is not a lot of power, I have mine piggy backed off of my high beams and have never had an issue with it. just check the fog lights fuse and compare to the amps of the fuse that came with the light bar?

Yeah I will do when I get it. It's at my Mrs house wrapped up in birthday paper at the moment. As I have to wait till Tuesday which is a outrage if u ask me haha.

400 watts of led lighting is a helluva lot. It's probably the equivalent light output to 400 watts of standard lights.

Check the current drawn with a multimeter, if you feel confident to do so.

DO NOT piggy back it off your existing wiring! Seriously don't!

400w is 30+ amps extra on top of what the loom is designed for and is an unacceptable fire risk.

Use a relay, there's guides here and if you get confused there's plenty that'll be happy to talk you through it.

I'm no Lecky wizzkid and it took me a little while to get my head round them but read a few guides and looked at a few wiring diagrams.....When you understand how they work it all becomes simple.

Slight edit....The fog light circuit might be ok if it's presently unused but you run into potential legal issues.

Forward facing light bars/spots etc are classed as auxillary headlights and must be switched so they automatically switch off when dip beam is switched on (ie wired to work with main beam only)

well i was thinking of putting a blank switch on the thing so that it appears that it doesn't have fog lights therefore in a round about way it would be alright???

but when ive got the thing ill have a look at some wiring diagrams

Yer unlikely to get called out on it but if you want them for road use it makes sense to wire them to full beam only anyway. Else you have 2 switches to flip everytime another car approaches.

yeah i guess so. tbh i wouldnt need high beam with all that light haha
