cheers mate i aint gorra single piece of paper sez i can do it but ive been welding for the last 15 years now so its almost second nature (havent done pigeon **** or hedgehog welds for years now ) lmao :D:D

i taught myself to weld about 3 years ago........ after a few mins i can normally get some fairly decent welds (strong but not always pretty lol) the only thing i have trouble with is welding thin stuff to thick stuff

i need to get myself another auto dimming helmet as mine went tits up

ive never used a auto dimming helmet as im rather partial to useing the old style full face drop down mask the ones from b&spew are rather good fer the tenner they cost if nothing else theyre a great backup :D:D

as for welding thick to thin try concentrating your heat more on the thick stuff and flicking the puddle into the edge of the thin evry now and then it seems to blend in rather nicely without blowin the hell out of the thin stuff:D:D

My welder/welding is all over the place !. ( Draper 1302T )

Finally got it out the back of the garage to find the 0.6mm wire all rusty and running through a 0.8mm tip.

So shot to Halfords and bought some 0.6mm tips, a reel of 0.6mm wire and a disposable bottle of CO2. ( ouch ).

Got it all home, put it all on the welder and let it rip on some clean 1" box section.

Got a couple of good runs, but did seem to " stutter " a bit.

Without my finger on the trigger, I could hear a hissing coming from the handle.
Took it apart to find the " O " ring that seals the 4mm pipe to the " tap " under the trigger to be out of its housing slightly. ( no wonder my gas was always empty ).

Now sorted, and getting a better weld.

Im defo going to look into a bigger bottle though, as £ 13 a go for a " soda stream " bottle is no good.

Cheers my welding buddies !.

i find i weld a lot neater using an auto-dimming helmet, i have a north brand normal one but i find the resistance on the side screws is either so tight i can't move it and it pulls the headband off me head or its so loose it flops all over the place!

my auto dimming one died half way through welding a rear crossmember on....... i couldn't just stop so i ended up with killer arc eye!

i just googled your welder and it looks a lot like the SIP migmate130 i had..... i fecking hated it! it used to do that weld for about an inch then spatter and fart about, it was the wire feed motor and mechanism, i junked the whole welder (still sits behind me garage)

that reminds me...... i could do with modifying my welder to accept a euro torch

ere anyone know how?

get pics of the bits up mate and ill talk yer through it as it cant be harder than fitting a torch from a wolfweld 150 onto a snapon unit :D:D:D

got a sheet of 6 foot by 4 foot 1mm thick for 21 quid from local motor factors - repaired the floor no sweat. wasnt pretty though

got my hands on an auto darkening mask - just a cheapo off ebay....

its a revelation for the beginner .... did a nice butt weld and welded all ronnd a plate without going off track as had the ability to see - where as my machine mart mask only let me see the arc so i was welding from memory - perhaps that was just a crappy mask !

Well i got a Clarke gasless mig a few years ago and found it easy to use.
I bought a gasless one as it can take gas as well so i thought best of both worlds.
But to be honest i do prefer my proper Gas set up.

What do you guys reckon about the Sealey MIGs?

I have a SIP Migmate 100, which has done the job so far, but the poor thing has to have a break sometimes and I want to start building bigger stuff, like custom roofracks, lightbars, etc...

Saw a Sealey 160 turbo not far from me, brand new for 200....any good?
They cost close to 500 new....but not sure if they are any good...

I've welded with my mates SnapOn, and it's a beauty...but too much money
