What method did you use to set the valve clearances? I'm not convinced you havnt got this bit wrong.
Rule of 9.....heard of that?
yes like jamesmartin said, I got that wrong. just did one after the other , then redone the 2 that I couldn't do after turning the engine on

I never heard of that before, like anything else that's real mechanic for the matter lol.
following the tutorial that someone posted ( can't remember who it was ) now I reread it did say follow the sequence from the manual but didn't pay attention at the time
 
That's what I wanted to do when the 2 push rods where up ( which in fact if I follow well what you said is normal ) but not sure how to do it lol.
Will check the manual and do that as soon as it stop raining
follow the rule of 9 there is the on the rock method too but theres no point in getting complicated,if you havent its most likely your problem

I will say though, have you got all the valve stem caps in place?
 
spanner or socket on crank nut ,and you need to watch a valve opening carefully so you stop as it just gets fully open ,if you go to far you watch valves and go on to the next opening

yes all the caps in place but I didn't change the seals though, one thing as well, refitting it I realised that I lost one of the dowels is that a big deal ? and I couldn't torque bolts because my 13mm socket isn't long enough since there is the little extension for the cover screws, I torque the 2 middle ones to 30nm though and just tried my best to feel those and do the same to the 3 13mm ones

great, simple, I thought I would have to open something, ok it looks like the rain is stopping , will go try that.

So just to make sure , I will:

remove rocker cover,
crank by hand one by one ,
if for example number2 go down when it is the at the lowest point I will adjust number 7,
etc...

we counting from the front isn't it ?
 
yes when counting from the front , they wont open in front to back order so just watch each,when its opposite is set mark that rocker so you know which are set,and move on to the next opening (going down)
 
order just to be sure, wind over till valve is just fully down/open then set the other
1 down set 8
2 down set 7
3 down set 6
4 down set 5
5 down set 4
6 down set 3
7 down set 2
8 down set 1
 
You could remove the glowplugs or injectors (seeing as they will come out easier having just been fitted ) and it'll turn during the alternator belt method.
A socket will be useful for future use though.

Yes, I got one that will arrive tomorrow for £4 so no question asked , I will need it anyway to do the cam belt as soon as I get enough courage to do it
 
Hi everyone,

So I readjusted them with the rule of 9, they were all good ... I have been picky and readjusted a tiny bit 2 of them but they were good...
Still smoking...
Turning the crank nut I heard some kind of psshhh noise, like depression noise coming out of the rocker is that normal ?
I also turned the engine on with the rocker cover off and seen a lot of watery oil splashing out of 4 pushrod holes (2/3/6 and 7), is that normal too ?
