Disco 2 Leaking Roof/windscreen - advice required

Since I bought my discovery, there has been a leak. It does not have any sunroofs and the leak has always shown on the headlining from the top of the passenger door to the grab handle. It has run the length to the windscreen. I have just removed the headlining and run a hose over the roof. There appears to be a leak in the top nearside corner of the windscreen. This is where water would appear to be dripping in. At present, there is not any sign of rust and all metalwork appears to be in good order. Before I get the sealant out, has anyone any suggestions of how this could be rectified. If I apply sealant, should it be on the inside, or, the outside? Sounds a daft question. However with my previous Disco 1, I lifted up the trim on the outside of the windscreen and sealed the entire lot. Yet, it continued to leak. I wonder if I might miss a trick.

A quick update - I have just looked at the area again. It would appear that there is a sponge like seal at the top of the windscreen. The seal appears to stop 2 inch's from the end. It is this area where the leak appears to be.
 
Thanks for this information. I am thinking that as the leak is in the top corner, do I really need to seal the entire windscreen? The rest of the seal looks fine. Anyone else tackled this problem? if so, method and outcome?
 
Water can run anywhere it wants to, even uphill due to capillary action.
I would be tempted to run a bead of sealant for the entire width of the top of the windscreen and down to at least half way on either side of the screen. The LR water ingress manual does show how to reseal the windscreen.
The bond between the old seal and the new stuff can at the slightest fault create the very problem of capillary action so make absolutely sure that the surfaces you're bonding onto is totally clean and free from grease and properly prepared.
Another way to repair a leak around a windscreen is to "accidentally" crack it so that it requires replacement and then let Autoglass (there are other winscreen repairers) sort the resealing. Far be it from me to ever recommend making a fraudulent claim on the insurance companies.

Mine leaked exactly as you described...found the sealant at the front end of the gutter was cracked and letting water in. Just cut out the old sealant with a stanley knife, clean up the area, dry it and fill with ordinary bathroom silicon. Paint over with hammerite paint and youre sorted
 
All - thank you for your replies. I followed to advice on the PDF and following today's rain, there does not appear to be a leak. Hopefully, a success.
