Well, I was maybe looking to reduce my vehicles, and when I see a post from someone looking to buy a disco 1 I respond with pictures as requested, and that seems to be the end of it. Is a v8 in good condition with lpg fitted and 9 months mot such a bad thing? After buying a shed in the disguise of a 3 door tdi I would have thought that if you say want to buy a disco, at least bother to take a view of it. (in my defence the 3 door got worse as I stripped it!). Bought it as it is simple, everything manual, no abs, srs etc.
As it stands I'm paying £280 insurance and similar for VED and say £40 for MOT and then the cost of oil & filter changes before it even moves - say £800 a year, so when I finish the 3 door tdi, the v8 will end up being crushed as it appears that it is the biggest pile of garbage ever produced.
When I put together the cost of maintaining it over the years, it is quite scary, however, it has been fun at times, sitting at the top of Mt Ventoux after I had cycled up, same with the Tourmalet and a lot of the other cols in the pyrenees and south west France, but at the end of the day, if it isn't worth the time of day then into the scrap bin it goes.
After having spent my formative years driving around in various 88". 109" and early 90/110 I cannot understand the ascribed 'value' of a series or deaf end er. The 88" lightweight I had a Leuchars did for my hearing, well whatever the Phantom F4k and Tornado ids/adv left behind.
So here is hoping I am allowed to finish my dotage with the 3 door.
