Well, I was maybe looking to reduce my vehicles, and when I see a post from someone looking to buy a disco 1 I respond with pictures as requested, and that seems to be the end of it. Is a v8 in good condition with lpg fitted and 9 months mot such a bad thing? After buying a shed in the disguise of a 3 door tdi I would have thought that if you say want to buy a disco, at least bother to take a view of it. (in my defence the 3 door got worse as I stripped it!). Bought it as it is simple, everything manual, no abs, srs etc.
As it stands I'm paying £280 insurance and similar for VED and say £40 for MOT and then the cost of oil & filter changes before it even moves - say £800 a year, so when I finish the 3 door tdi, the v8 will end up being crushed as it appears that it is the biggest pile of garbage ever produced.
When I put together the cost of maintaining it over the years, it is quite scary, however, it has been fun at times, sitting at the top of Mt Ventoux after I had cycled up, same with the Tourmalet and a lot of the other cols in the pyrenees and south west France, but at the end of the day, if it isn't worth the time of day then into the scrap bin it goes.
After having spent my formative years driving around in various 88". 109" and early 90/110 I cannot understand the ascribed 'value' of a series or deaf end er. The 88" lightweight I had a Leuchars did for my hearing, well whatever the Phantom F4k and Tornado ids/adv left behind.
So here is hoping I am allowed to finish my dotage with the 3 door.

Ever tried screaming the tits off the 109 going up hill at Saxavord, that and leaving screaming getting out with beads of sweat.

The problem is people want chapagne for beer money, the same people who want top dollar for everything!

Top bit of advice there
My missus doesnt really interfere in what I spend money on, but if I have something big or expensive arriving tell her I've sold something else to pay for it :D

Never add up what you’ve spent on a Landy over the years, it’ll make you cry. And especially don’t let the other half see the amount in the interests of self preservation! o_O

Inversely, I think it's wise to keep expenditure up to date/keep a full expense record. When it comes to sell/confirm agreed insurance value one has all the receipts readily documented and makes for an easier and higher value sale with proof of proper maintenance record. As for the her indoors/all other halves, just tell them the annual expenditure is always off-set by increased asset value. And always keep a separate car/boys toys bank account that no other half has access to - this can be used as an interest bearing slush fund that gains good value with vehicle buys and sales...it soon adds up :)

Until one buys a crusty old Land Rover

still not got to a final figure with the 3 door tdi, for the current repair anyway. For the 5 door v8 I've kept all the receipts in an A5 folder and have run out of space, so have to move v5 and mot forms into a new folder. Fortunately my owner doesn't complain about the cost, just the boxes or parts congregating in the front room, so far the explanation for this holds, that if I move them to the garage they will disappear. I know this as I put a spare ECU and MAF in there and I can't find them now.
Anyway, owner has begrudgingly let me keep the v8 as she knows how much I have 'wasted' on it already so it may as well take up space on the drive, maybe I can fix the a/c, not that it was used even in haute Garonne in the summer (46C on 2018).

Susie, my wife thought I was nuts buying the L322 2003 for £4000, I must have spent about the same doing it up sort of speak, but she does like riding in it, especially the heated seats.
I did suggest at one point to sell it, No, you can't do that, I have now got to like it, I can help with the money if you like, that's why I love that girl, after 50 years as well
