The ads are placed by Squidoo, the site host, which provides the webspace for free. They will pay a cut of proceeds to the page author according to the number of visitors, and pay more if any of the visitors chose to follow the advertising links. So MHM is quite right in saying that we are contributing to his income by visiting the site, and the lack of information does suggest that we're being asked to 'do his homework for him', as it were.
I look after a website for my Railway Society. It's hosted (for free) on my ISP's server. There are no adverts, so we get no income from it, but the entire screen area is available for me to play with and design how I wish, not just a small strip down one side. It may not be bbc.co.uk, but it does the job for us.
I would also be interested to know if he has asked Land Rover about the copyright of several of the photos he's using. They are clearly from Land Rover publicity material so he should have their permission to use them. (It's not as if there's any shortage of Landy photos on the web!)
If his site were based on a wiki, then everyone here would be able to add their content and you'd have a real enthusiast's site. (There are probably many already existing, so there's little point re-inventing the wheel.)
I won't be visiting again as all the Squidoo-added rubbish makes the page look really messy. Too many 'things' and not enough 'content'...
