We definitely do not want to sell but we have no idea what we are dealing with.

Any advice most welcome.
Without seeing it or better pictures it's impossible to say. Who'd be doing the work, you or a garage?

This is my 2a:D

We would have to pay a garage to complete the work.

We have a restoration garage nearby that is desperate to complete the work.

I'm going back to where its currently stored on saturday to take some more pictures.
At seven grand I'm sure they are. I did mine from the ground up on my drive and in the back garden  Depends on how high a standard you want it?

We don't want a high standard at all. Just to be road worthy and tidied up.

Your 2a looks fab. What was it like at the beginning and how much did it cost you to get it where it is today?
Had it since 2015 but it was missing quite a lot of stuff unlike yours. Only started it in earnest February time. Shame I couldn't see yours to give you a better idea. Are you wanting it painting or keeping it 'rustic'
Bulkhead doesn't look bad but it'd be interesting to see the chassis. Have you had it running?

That would have been ideal.
Been advised to keep the rustic look and to be honest I think I prefer it that way as it shows its years.
The battery was flat last weekend so we couldn't get it started. Its been on charge since so it should be OK come the weekend.
Its been used up until May when the family member passed away so it does run albeit 100 miles a year max

Take a photo of the footwells and chassis, if they're ok a service and a brake overhaul. If the battery's flat it might be goosed as there's nothing to drain it. Might be worth pouring some fresh fuel down to carb and give it a crank.

Once you let a garage loose on the restoration the cost will spiral. Even just a chassis change ends up much more than you first think. It won't just be the chassis and brakes, it will be bushes, wiring, suspension parts and so on. Even if you try to control the cost, when the old chassis is off and the garage tell you this that and the other need doing before the new chassis goes in, are you going to say no, put the rusty bits back on?
It looks great as is but the state of the chassis and bulkhead are all important. Often a chassis can look rusty to the untrained eye but be perfectly servicable. Look for holes especially around the leaf spring hangers, dumb irons and rear crossmember.

Thanks Col that's really helpful.

If we can have it medically made sound without replacing the whole chassis I will be very happy!!

We are certainly learning not to believe everything a restoration garage say because at the end of the day they are in it to make money.

I will certainly be checking out those areas when I'm back with the landy on Saturday

Hi and welcome!

What a fantastic Landy! You don’t see many in that original condition come up very often! You might find a service and some attention gives a very usable vehicle, as mentioned, but if you want to do a chassis change you could easily head towards the £7-10k mark easily depending on what you change with it. If you do restore, keepnthe bodywork as far as is possible, it’s got history and patina to it, which you cannot buy.

In terms of value, it depends what someone will pay. If you put in an auction, two bidders could really push the price up. Personally, I’d keep it.

Good luck with whatever you do. Keep us updated.

Make it so it works and enjoy it, looks like you have some land so no need to be road legal.
The important thing to remember if it is (for example) worth 5k now, it will still be worth at least that if not more in 5/10 years time, so if you are not desperate for the money have some fun, genuine original low mileage s2 are like rocking horse poo.

Join the series 2 forum, some very knowledgable people on there, who will be able to tell you exactly what you have, they normally have local area meets etc, so you can sweet talk someone to come and have a look and maybe jelp get it running.
