Hello folks,

I think there is time to change my TC now. Why?? Simple because my D3 has 214k mileage and what I have experienced recently is a wobble in the torque converter when starting. Also, driving on the highway I need to move the gearbox lever from D manually and upshift to 6th gear because D is always downshifting to 5th gear. I need to keep all the time on manual when I'm on the highway which is not normal. So mega flush, change the TC and should all be ok after. I don`t want to make a mega flush with the old TC and spend money again for a mega flush after replacing the TC. My question is if there is any independent garage or specialist who can change the TC but is also responsible for pricing. I don`t want to sell my arm to replace the TC. I found a re-manufactured TC and I need to replace it with my old one. Please, advice if you have any better solution.

Best,
Andi

Best of luck. Some places object like mad if you source your own parts and then want them to install them.
I am lucky in that my indy don't mind too much although he expects me to dispose of the old ones, which is OK.

I found a re-manufactured one for 350£ but he will supercharge me with 150£ until I send the old unit back and he will refund me back. How much your indy is asking to change the TC??

Is it the 6 speed (i think so) and is it original?

Maybe you may want to budget for a recon box at the same time, I know its more expense but those boxes aren't the strongest, and if you have got that mileage out of the original then you have done well. There are a couple of different 6 speed boxes and I am not sure if they both suffer the same.

Make sure and get all the cooler and lines flushed too when the work is done.

Reason for saying this is its the same work labor wise.

Some say that a mega flush removes particles that are keeping it running/or stirs up more crap. A couple of fluid changes first with a filter change I feel is better.

Problem comes when you cant do the work yourself and the labor costs can impact the choice of what to do.

Have you actually had it on diagnostic's to see?

No, I didn`t. But why should I recon the box?? I don`t have any kicks or strange behaviour only what I say before which is normal wear of the TC for such a heavy car... That mileage is ok for the box itself and I`ve seen the same model with more than 250k without recon the box. I`m not the first owner, but I think the previous owners had already changed the fluid once or twice during his life. I didn`t diagnose yet. What kind of diagnostic do you recommend to me?? If you are talking if I`ve scanned the car with the scan tool yes I`ve already done it and there is no error from the box or TC.

Best,
Andi
