We have Merc Sprinters at work that go one step further than the already stupid key dock and do a proximity thing on the key/fob. Its fookin ridiculous, you can't control when the ignition is on and off.

I can't find stats to see if there is a difference in size between the two gen Disco Sports, but the first Gen is built on the JLR D8 platform, which is essentially the Ford EUCD platform that the Freelander 2 uses.

The Disco Sport does have a slightly longer wheelbase, but by 3.5". It is also only about 3.5" longer and wiki says the FL2 is actually 1/2" wider than the Disco Sport.

No matter how you slice it, they are pretty similar sized in terms of footprint.

Im no mechanic, but most jobs can be done by a bit of research and an ask on this fantastic forum.

As for the width, no way is the FL1 12" narrower.... Wiki says 71.2 for the FL1 and 74.6" for the DS. You also seem to be out on the length too.

No matter how you slice it, the DS, FL1 & FL2 footprint wise are all pretty similar.

They aren't the same, the DS is at best a gentrification of the F1.

I know most cars have gone the same way, but the DS is into a different market to the F1.
