Land Rover 90 Needs a New Radiator

I have an ex-MOD 1987 FFR Land Rover 90 that needs a new radiator. However, I'm not sure which radiator will fit. I think that I have narrowed it down to either a ESR78 or a ESR79.

I have found an ESR78 on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321898825893

Anybody know which one I should go for?

Engine type will give you the answer, so we can only guess?

Yes, sorry. The engine is a 2.5l n/a diesel.

I got the cheaper one for my Defender and it seems fine. My plan is to keep the original and get it reconditioned by Seerks . The old one definitely feels heavier that the El Cheepo one. I did look on ebay but I found Paddocks worked out less because of the postage .

why not get it rebuilt/recored would be cheaper

Just incase your offered by anyone to have it sealed and reconditioned don't bother.

I've had two motorbike lead sealed and done up and neither lasted very long

I enquired at my local rad specialist about having mine re-cored about 3-years ago (300TDi) and he said that for something like my 90, good replacements were so cheap nowadays that he would not be able to be competitive on price.

Sure enough, I got a Bearmach OE copper / brass item (no plastic end-tanks) for something under £120.

You may well find that Sercks no longer recon rads, they send them out to be done.

Why do you need to replace it?
If she is overheating, then clean and flush.
The only time you should need to change a rad is if it is leaking like there's no tomorrow!

What about if all the fins have fallen off?

The radiator has developed a major leak, the fluid flows out as fast as you pour it in, so it needs to be replaced.

Has it just started leaking or has it been doing it for a long time?
My Series II ran for over 2 years without changing the rad after I broke an egg into it ... and then forgot that it needed replacing.

Will a Discovery 1 radiator and surround fit a 2.5NA ?

I have no idea how long the radiator has been leaking. I have only recently purchased the Land Rover and when I checked the radiator expansion tank I found it empty, upon filling the expansion tank up, the fluid leaked out of the radiator.
