I went to visit Castle Bromwhich to watch the aluminium Jaguar XJ’s being bonded and riveted together about 8 years ago. The rivets are not only quite sophisticated (these aren’t pop rivets!), but it’s interesting to remember that the same factory was riveting aluminium panels together on Spitfires 75 years ago and they seem to have lasted pretty well.

Just been having a look around the nice new L405 sub-section. Rather nice. ;)

The rivets used on Spitfires 75 years ago were magnesium and will have rotted away and been replaced a long time ago. Now flying Spitfires will not have their original rivets i assure you.
