I had four rover p6's over a period of 5yrs... Never had any luck with any of them... Rusty, engine problems, bumped into.. Clutch issues.. I adore that model but just wasn't the car for me.... Maybe the 38' is that way for you @Enthusiastman? ;) but an l405, that's a different thing. :)
P38's for me buddy are a distant bad memory now. My Rover P5B was a beautiful car and MINT. I sold her recently and she was snapped up QUICKLY due to her condition. The L405 really is a nice car. Who know's eh. My mate will be here in it again at 5pm.

Didnt @Tigger Eeyore & Roo have problems? I've tagged him so hopefully he'll reply.;)

Yes, I had a problem. At around 1 year and 30,000 miles, it had a problem with an engine oil sensor and an associated oil leak, which put the car off the road for around 5 weeks while they diagnosed and repaired it.
Darn annoying at the time on a £100,000 car!
But, I put 4,000+ miles on their loaners, I got a free £650 service, a meal out, a new primary turbo (as the electronics on the turbo had oil on them and might have caused a problem in future) and a £20,000 (!) contribution towards a new one, at dealer cost price, if I’d wanted to trade it in. Can’t say fairer than that.
That was 2 1/2 years ago. I kept it and it’ll pass 100,000 miles within a month and it’s not misbehaved since.
The plan is to keep running it, at around 25,000 miles a year, at least until I retire in June 2029

Well my mate did have a tactical plan after all by letting me use his L405 Autobiography 4.4 SDV8. He has ordered a new one at the dealers which should arrive in a few months time so he has asked me if i want to buy his. I am seriously considering it albeit the £585 a year road tax band puts me off. Its a April 2015 - 15 plate so no STOP/START on it. If it were a September 2015 model it would have had the STOP/START on it and the road tax would have been only £340.
I have to say i am very tempted as he has totally looked after it and it has FULL SERVICE history main dealer and he extended the warranty on it too at the 3 year old point for another 3 years and its just run out. Apart from normal routine maintanance the car has been ultra reliable for him with no problems at all and its just clocked up 59k which is low for its age. Its just had a full 80k service done, 4 brand new tyres fitted last month and new Brembo discs/pads up front at same time so he DOES NOT skimp on it.
Maybe this could be what i need to finally put to bed all those horrid P38 experiences i had.
He is popping over again later today in it so i can have another long look at it and maybe just maybe i might buy it off him.

I would like to know how many on here own and run the later model L405's imparticular the 4.4 SDV8 model and their own experiences please of ownership.
Cheers in advance.

See my comments above.
It’s touch and go as to whether my old Disco 4 or the current L405 AB are the best car I’ve ever had. The SDV8 in the RR probably clinches it.
Even after 3 1/2 years and very nearly 100,000 miles, I wouldn’t part with it for anything else!
It looks like you’ve got a car with a perfect history. If the price is right, I’d bite his hand off!

Well i have bit the bullet and taken the plunge and bought my friends beautiful L405 Autobiography off him this weekend. It was a bit of a no brainer really in the end. He has babied this car from new and apart front routine servicing and maintenance it has never failed him and has always been garaged and will continue to be so which sort of supports its immaculate condition. She drives lovely and smooth and with only 59090 miles on the clock from new she is well below her average miles for her age which is April 2015 - 15 plate. I have put my private plates on her now. My mate has just at end of March this year had 4 brand new tyres fitted, a full 80k main dealer service carried out to include new front Brembo discs and pads, a full valet done and he had only 2 weeks ago filled it up so its still got well over 1/2 a tank of diesel in her. Oh yes, she is a 4.4 SDV8 model. Sadly road tax is £585 for 12 months as it is " pre stop/start " model which came in Sept 15 and was only £340 to tax but hey you cant have it all can you. This has made up for all the ****e i have had to endure this last 12 months in regards to my P38 search so i can now move on and enjoy this beast. As you can se she is now living the luxury life in my " mancave " on my 4 poster lift ramp where i can attend to her all i want. LOL. Similar cars like this on main dealer forecourts and at other garages ( with more miles on them ) are going for excess of 42k upwards. My mate paid £115k for this new back in 2015 and i have the sales invoice listing all the optional extra's he had on it. The electric deployable tow bar i love and was one of the most expensive options he said albeit he has only used it about 5 times in 6 years. It came with a spare set of the same style 21 inch alloys too which are now at the refurber's being done and these will be going back on the car in place of the plain silver wheels which i will probebly sell on. I have started ordering some bits for the car online already to make her my own and planty of polish going on to keep her super shiney. Wish me luck guys. LOL.

I knew it :D
Nice machine dude:cool:

These 21 inch L405 Autobiography alloys and newly fitted Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres might be for sale in a few days time as i have my Diamond polished set back from refurbishment and they will be having new tyres fitted later today and then going on the car. The plain silver set coming off the car are in great condition with just a couple of tiny stone chips on one rim i think. I will be cleaning them up also once they are off. The tyres were only fitted end of March by the chap i bought the car off and are still as new and only done 250 miles max and he paid nearly £800 for the 4 tyres. They have the all important TPMS valves fitted as well and centre caps so essentially all ready to fit straight on to any L405 model or similar model Range Rover. I spotted a chap in our town the other day with a L322 model with the same wheels fitted so i know they will fit older Range Rovers too. Cant wait to get my newly polished rims fitted. Give me a call on 07779950808 to discuss further.
