The GM gearbox is a common failure item. The torque converter, oil cooler and pipes should also be replaced to ensure there is no metal debris left in the system. A Sonnax valve block should also be fitted.
Thanks for the reply. Is there any chance the gearbox isn’t broken? any other parts that could be causing the failsafe issue, Just trying to double check before having to spend a few thousand on a rebuild gearbox 🙈

Yes, the torque converter but that may well have knackered the gearbox. The GM box rarely lasts beyond about 80K miles.

I’ve seen a lot of people talking about a transfer box motor once seeing the failsafe program error. my RR is stuck in 1st gear no neutral or reverse however i’ve seen most people saying it usually gets stuck in 4th/5th so i didn’t know if it could be the same issue as mine. This is the first range rover i’ve owned so am new to all of this & the problems that come with it.

Unless you have been using low range, I doubt it's problem with the transfer box motor, it could be a wiring fault but unlikely IMO.
It needs to go on diagnostics to get a definitive answer.

If there's metal in the gearbox it's poisoned and already has its days numbered. You can empty it, flush it and the most likely cause is the torque converter that has shed metal after wearing away its clutch material. Ruining the gearbox. As said if it's got metal it's dead dude. 😔

Thanks for the help. Is there anything i need to make sure is getting replaced or reconditioned/checked when the gearbox goes in for its refurb 🙈. As said i have no idea about range rovers

Are you getting help to do this yourself or have a garage to do it for you😊

A garage recommended that the gearbox needed a recondition they said it is knackered basically because of the metal in the oil i’m guessing. I just wanted to make sure i was doing the right thing by getting a recondition as it’s a lot of money🙈! I’m hoping after the recondition the failsafe message will be gone & the car runs smoothly again🤞🏼.

A replacement torque converter is essential.
