What exactly are you loading the car & trailer with ??

Don't forget it also depends when you passed your UK test, and what Categories you have on your license. If after 1997, then you have 3500kg combined car & trailer restriction unless you also did C1 or C1E. Consequently fully loaded FL1 7 Trailer can exceed license allowance for young drivers. Ig you're an old fart like me then license is well above FL1 maximum.

In case it helps here's what RAVE says:

thanks nodge68 that information is exactly what I'm looking for. its worth its weight in gold. so what you think 06 v6 springs on top of L series shocks? the AWD system is in good nick. I changed out the rear diff mounts for urethane bushes and have got my eye on a full urethane bushes kit for front and rear. changed out the prop bearings. I was looking to change diff, ird, and gear box oils. front and rear strut brace. what do you think?

thanks pwood999 this info is good to but it seems to contradict my weight plate. it saying 2050 on the MAM your data saying 2080. unless I'm mistaken. I have no trailer. just tools and on board compressor. I was planning to have more but i will have to keep my weight down now

A member over here @htr put Dobinson Springs on his Freelander. I believe he describes them a a bit taller and firmer than standard, not sure if they would help in your desire to carry borderline weights frequently - firmer might be good, but higher COG would probably not be good. If you do a search for springs and member htr he has talked about them a bit.

Good springs - I had my local garage fit the springs to the struts - easy job to remove/refit to vehicle - down side is you have to disconnect the rear brake lines to get those ones off/on. Slightly firmer ride and possible 10 to 15mm higher. All works well with my taller mud tyres in the clearance department.

thanks htr glad to hear from someone who has fitted them. this has helped me work out my plan. would it be frowned apon to make a incision in the bracket were the pipe goes though?

I'm not qualified to judge that. But if it's only on that bracket then I can't really see a problem. Will that brake line still be held securely and not vibrate around as it the junction from the rigid brake line to the flexible one which goes to the rear wheel cylinder?

thanks grumpygel
your reply was uplifting. my commitment is set in stone. I had in my head I wanted a 4x4 and life presented me with my l series. I didn't even pay any physical money for it. got it in exchange for my labour on a 2jz rebuild. i will check out these springs you speak of and will also look in to the uprated td4 suspension. need to find out weather the td4 components will just bold on. looking on e bay I had the the td4 and the l series shocks up side by side and they look the same. witch begs the question were dose the td4 get its higher weight tolerance? from the macpherson strut or somewhere else in the running gear.
what year is you l series?
Its a '99. Still giving great service. Here's a pic taken on a day out last week...

No, I believe all the 50th anniversary cars were Atlantis Blue (just checked and some were 'White Gold').

I did see one for sale here in Chch a few years back. A 1.8 3 door with the parcel shelf and the rear middle cubby box - hens teeth stuff. Was on a fore court and the bloke said it was going away to have the HG replaced as it was blowing, but never saw if back. A year later I saw it advertised on FB Marketplace with a failed clutch, but it had shifted up to Auckland. I contacted the seller and he didn't reply. Contacted him again later and he said it had been sold. Wouldn't mind betting it had been scrapped and a great car lost.

The non-standard bits on mine's are the head lights (original one burnt out) and wing mirror (original busted case) off my 2001 parts car, which has also been used to add other bits as well, both broke bits and accessories.

Cant like that post I'm afraid :(

Would have liked to have seen the motor though.

Amazingly it survived the ordeal, but she lost interest in it once I'd repaired it. As it was her car, we traded it in for her BMW convertible. :(
Shame is it was a lovely vehicle, but there wasn't room in the household for 2 Freelanders, and I had the V6, which was more fun.

I'll look out some pictures, if I can find them on my HDD.

i would like to drive the v6. is the drive train the same as the l series. or have they uprated it?

The IRD is different, as the V6 IRD has a higher gear ratio, simply because the V6 has much more grunt than any other engine type available.

The V6 is automatic only, as the manual box simply wouldn't cope with the available torque from the V6.

The front half of the propshaft is a different length, and the VCU is a different part number, although it looks similar to the 4 cylinder VCU.

Otherwise they are the same vehicle, just the V6 has different front springs to take the weight of the engine and automatic box.

It's pretty fast, getting to 60 in around 10 seconds, and it obviously tows a trailer with ease. The down side is the economy, or lack of, at under well under 20 MPG.

I had an Atlantis Blue 50th, but the wife parked it up a wall. :(
It was lovely vehicle, which was fully loaded with every LR option at the time.
Same, except mine was an L series (profile pic). Essentially wrecked by a local garage before I knew better.
Had every option other than the body kit. One of my biggest regrets getting rid of it.
