Hi, I have a knocking or clanking sound from drivers front wheel area on my rr vogue 2004 td6 diesel, it only happens when turning right from a standstill or reversing from standstill round a corner, normal cornering is fine and driving straight is fine, any help welcomed thanks

Sounds like a Cv or wheel bearing starting to complain. But would need a little further investigation.

Have you jacked up the wheel and “wiggled” or tried to turn? And feel/hear anything.

Not yet, it doesn't do it when wheels are on ground and you put full lock on, on when moving on lock slowly, thanks

You won’t get any if you are not moving.

But you say “clanking” is something loose and just rubbing. Loads of those ally guards on the L322 that could make that type of sound.

Will check anything loose at weekend, it doesn't seem to be a heavy noise so could be something loose or rubbing as it had a lower suspension arm changed last week and only heard this since

single clunk or repeating clunk ?

if its a single clunk I would go with suspension arm bushes or ball joint

Cant really say as it's when you are on a sharp right from standstill or reverse so don't really go far enough before wheels are straight again, could always go on a empty carpark to keep lock on and see, thanks

ah.. bolt isn't torqued up. had the same on mine after a CV joint job, garage torqued it up correctly.. problem solved..

did you only do one arm ??

^^^^^ what he said. There's a bolt on the oposite end to the ball joint that I think is around 160nm then another 90degrees. I changed both of mine a few weeks ago then drove it "slowly" to a local garage with a ramp to get them torqued up.
