Hello,

It's great to see a really busy Land Rover forum - I am posting to let you know about a great series of events being organised to raise funds for Mountain Rescue.

Through the course of 2008 there will be a series of Kielder 4x4 Safaris - these are nothing new - the Forestry Commission have been running them for nearly a decade now and due to increasing popularity of the event and increased resourcing constraints the Grand Tour of Northumberland has been asked to help in the delivery of the Safari days.

Kielder is a small village surrounded by Wark, Kielder, Redesdale and Newcastleton forests - together these make up one of the largest man made forests in Western Europe. Kielder is located near to Hexam, Northumberland. Approximately 50 miles from Newcastle and 40 miles from Carlisle by road.

If you are interested in finding out more about the Grand Tour or the 4x4 Safari days then check the website Home

The first Safari date is March 29th 2008 and an entry form can be downloaded here: http://www.gton.co.uk/safari_booking.pdf

Would be great to see some of you there.

I don't know - I try to give you all a heads-up on the new event and it's passed off as spam?

I can't check back too often but will be around to answer questions when they do come up. I hope I'm not fighting a corner every time!

There are two events the Grand Tour of Northumberland is putting on that might be of interest here...

The Kielder 4x4 Safari is a day of getting muddy and driving the remote trails around Kielder Forest. It is a day purely for the driving enthusiast and defenately requires knowledge of how to use your vehicle. This is £50 per vehicle and includes a cooked breakfast for the driver. Starts at 1000hrs and finishes around 1600hrs.

The Grand Tour is an event for all those who want to do it in style - a day out for the whole family or a group of friends. Yes this one is £250, and yes, you might expect a Bowler thrown in for that price, but you will get Champagne, local cheese and organic meats to enjoy with crafstman baked bread. All wrapped up in a great hamper. If you think the kids will get bored, they won't with tree planting and bird box building en-route and we're putting on an exclusive falconry display as well as a few other activities along the way. Probably not up everyone's street this event - but it is a great way to see more than 60 miles of the best scenerey and driving in Northumberland - it is nearly all private roads and you will need your own 4x4 for this one too. If you are the sort that chooses between their Range Rover or Defender of a morning - I'd pick the Rainer for this one!

Oh - the proceeds from both events go to help Mountain Rescue - so what more of an excuse do you need?

Are they seriously suggesting that you should pay £250 to drive up fookin roads.......why even bother using a 4x4 just take the roller out for a spin.....jeeezus expensive spam

It's The FC what do you expect. I like the bit that says all proceeds goto the MRT. I wonder how much they take out for the hamper & administering the Scam! sorry Scheme,
